Do you think there is still alot of racism towards darker skinned women?

I mean my cousin had the nerve to go "I'd never date a "really black" girl, they're ugly, only like dark like Beyonce." and it just seems there's this general attitute that darker women are less attractive. I'm eurasian, but this kind of lame attitude annoys the c**p out of me.

Darker skinned women AND men have always been treated worse in society...even within their own culture. This happens even in other cultures (Indian, Brazilian, Latino, etc.). I have seen plenty of beautiful darker toned women, and I find darker men fine!! But, it's too bad that some people even have the nerve to say that being lighter is better. We all are beautiful in our own special way...ignorance is a *****.

I'm prepared for the thumbs down, it usually happens when what I say goes against popular belief, even if it's fact.

Look at what color most of the "black" woman on front covers of beauty magazines are, and your answer should be clear.

Also, I'm black, and I like all types of women, including very dark black women. As long as she's feminine and cute, and has style, I'm all about her.

Yes.

I think most complaints about racism and other isms in American society are really exaggerated or bogus, but yes I do think really dark skinned woman (and men) have to deal with discrimination from not just non-blacks but blacks too. Discrimination regarding skin tone among black folks is rampant and pernicious. Lighter skin toned black folks really are treated better among many black folks.

I think Asian and Eurasian woman are the opposite of this.....they are considered by society very attractive and desirable.

I'm on the same boat with your cousin. sorry. I'm sorry but the really black girls I've met are totally low brow, uneducated and kind of scandalous.

I can only base my decisions on past experiences so that's what you get.

Yes....Coco..you are right..and it bugs me too.  But..people are stupid..just look at some of the answers you just got..read "I am not a dumb b*tch's" answer.  You can tell that she believes the stereotype and plays into it.  It is an off shoot from slavery and it's still prevalent in many places but I must say that I didn't experience racism like this when I was in Europe.  So..I so totally agree with you.  What the heck does a "really black girl mean"? Does it mean she has to have light skin or does one of her parents have to be nonwhite?  Because sometimes two darker skinned people give birth to lighter skinned babies?  It is a complicated statement but it says alot about him and what he perceives as beautiful.  It annoys me too...but so does stupid people...and if you cousin is making those types of statements...well...you get my point!  I am glad that you are the intelligent one :>

Your cousin has a standard of "beauty." He isn't racist. He just prefers women that look a certain way. It's like saying you prefer blue eyes over brown.

In Japan and China and Korea, at least 3/4 of everyone would want a pale skinned partner. In Japan, it's known as Bihaku.
