  1. Tough question read below.

    JANUARY 2008

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

  2. I think that older (65+) should have to take an eye exam, and a drives test ever year. Just personal opinion.

  3. No. Age is not an indication of ability. Those who are capable should not be prevented from driving because of age.

  4. Yes before  25 and after  100

  5. I'm not sure about a blanket rule for cutoff, but I definitely, definitely think people above a certain age need regular tests to ensure they're still safe.

I know 90 year olds who are perfectly good drivers - but as a fire/rescue volunteer, I've seen a fair share of accidents caused by older drivers who've simply failed to see other traffic or stop signs and proceeded. Including one, who, while he was being cut out told me in the same sentence that he didn't see the red light - but that he'd continue driving until the day he died because he was fine to do so - and that his eyesight wasn't a worry (oh?)

So I think testing should be compulsory. That way, those who can't drive, don't - those who can, do.

Pilots are retested often for the same reason - so so should drivers. People are sometimes incapable of seeing their own abilities diminish...and it is sad to see elderly people injured in road accidents when they've failed to negotiate the road well. They tend to have less speed and fatigue accidents - but they feature often in intersection collisions - failing to see oncoming cars or stop signs...
