  1. A two tier tournmanet sounds a bit...discriminative?

I mean you'd wanna play with the big guys

Even if you do lose by heaps you can still say you played in the World Cup.

And nations like Tonga and Samoa would be invinsible if the All Blacks didnt "steal" their players.

  2. Yes.

In the next World Cup they will have a two tier tournament which will see the top the 16 compete for the Rugby World Cup.

The next top 24 teams will play for an interim cup.  Similar to sevens tournaments where you have a Cup, Bowl and Plate from which they split the tournament into three levels to accommodate similarly skilled countries competing on the same level.

The Rugby World Cup will incorporate both tiers and they will both play a part in winning the Championship.

    Lets hope huh.

  3. Some have suggested have a pool of just minnow teams and the top minnow team moves on to face one of the top pool teams.  However, it is extremely important experience for the minnows to play the top dogs.  Also, the memories created for the minnow squad members go very far in their home countries toward creating a stronger passion for the game.  You definitely would not hear anyone complaining that they got to play France, NZ, OZ, etc. in the World Cup even if they did get beat badly.  I like the structure the way it is.  The U.S. today proved that the smaller countries are getting better step-by-step and Argentina has just completed their long journey to becoming a powerhouse.

  4. Countries will only improve with playing more experienced sides.

Take France. When they first entered the Five Nations in the 1920s, they lost every match for about six or seven years. But would anyone deny them their  current place on the world rugby stage?

  5. There is....it's just that the world cup brings all the teams together.

  6. The rugby world cup is about the friendship and goodwill rather than the money or winning. All teams should play together.

    Japan/Australia Italy/NZ etc are win-win games.

Every-one fan and player has fun and enjoys themselves. For Japan or Italy to play let alone score against the giants of the game is great for them.  The big teams get to wacth open flowing games with high scores :-)

And if you get a shock result (say France Puma) then it is even better for the supporters and the players.
