To Nola's response, NEWSFLASH! we already meddle and we're already guilty of meddling. To whom much is given, much is required. As a country we have been given much and we are a great country but there is always room for improvement and yes we need self improvement, but hearing about all those people in the Congo being raped, murdered, and mutilated is troubling.

  1. There were elections in the Congo during 2007, at a cost of some €450 million from the international community and the parliament was democratically elected.

The elections were contested by a former warlord, JP Bemba, who fled the country and was arrested two months ago on accusations of crime against humanity.

The current President is Joseph Kabila, who came to power after his father's death but then was reelected in democratic elections surveyed and approved by international observers.

There are pockets of unrest in some areas in the East of the country, quite not surprisingly in areas where you can find interesting minerals like gold, coltan, etc.

The curse of the country is its wealth, that is why you find adventurers and smugglers and warlords, associating to deprive the country and its inhabitants of that wealth.

What is the US doing about it? Hopefully nothing.

  2. Why should the U.S. do anything about it. We can't take care of ourselves. Just look at the mess we're in. And beside that if we did try to help, we'd be accused of meddling where we didn't belong. All they want is what money we send them.

  3. I agree with Nola. We should concentrate on getting those in this country we have to take care to getting them to take care of themselves and making a contribution or gone. I believe Afrika is a lost cause. Throwing money at a problem never solves it. Relief must come from within. The US would be accused of all kinds of atrocities by the libs if we tried to help the Congo. They'd be screaming oil, it's all about oil or some other c**p.

  4. I WILL IN PRISON ANY FOUL LANGUAGE OR ANY FOUL PLAY BECAUSE I'M ULTIMATE RULER OF THE UNIVERSE !

  5. I highly doubt they care what goes on there, let alone all of Africa..

  6. There never has been.
