I mean, if pot was legalized (fully legalized, not just prescriptions and such), do you think the type of people who become alcoholics, would not, because they would be smoking pot instead?

For example, I only drink alcohol when I dont have pot. I worked for microsoft, cisco, the post office, northrop grumman, and now I have my own business. Im a very responsible person so lets not turn this into an insult fest. I just want honest opinions about the effects of legalization of pot on people who might have more of a chance of becoming alcoholics. I think I would probably become an alcoholic if I wasnt such a pothead. My friend who was 20 and lived with me died from alcohol last year. He smoked pot but he always had a bad alcohol problem and it makes me wonder if maybe it all started because he couldnt always get pot (sometimes its hard in certain areas).

  1. No, but there would be less angry drunks.

  2. No. Pot isn't addicting but alcohol is.

If pot was legalized, h**l, I would smoke it . But for the people who are massive drunks( I mean the people who do it everyday) they would not switch from the addicting alcohol to the healthier, smarter, and awesome feeling of pot.

  3. I'm a patient in CA. I love to smoke. I also love beer. I mix them both frequently and have no problem with it. But with or without my "medicine", I'll still have a beer or three, it's in my nature.

  4. i think it depends on the type of person you are...i like to just smoke pot...but some people like the mixed high. god made pot, man made beer...who do you trust?

  5. Nope. I smoked pot, and have no idea what the fuss is about. I wouldn't walk across the street to get it if it was legal. Cigarettes, I can see, I enjoyed Camels for 43 yrs. and I believe scotch and beer are mans greatest acheivments.

  6. I think alchies would still be alchies. Alcohol is an addictive substance and marijuana IS NOT. Anybody who already has an alcohol problem is going to have trouble replacing it with M.J. , although those who would choose to smoke would probably drink less. I would say after it has been legal for a substantial amount of time it would dramatically decrease the number of new alcoholics. If you ask me though, the fact that our government allows so many people to suffer from alcoholism when they could be potheads free of addiction is beyond my comprehension. Its ridiculous and they know it. Next thing you know smoking pot will be terrorism. You watch. Idiots....

  7. By only offering the general public one choice of legal drug it does indeed make alcohol the major thing that people will turn to for an escapist buzz.  Alcohol is probably one of the worst drugs to be legal because by nature it can cause people's inhibitions to be lowered and can make people irrational, which often leads to taking more alcohol.  As you know having used marijuana, one reaches a threshhold so far as how high they can get in an evening, and so smoking more becomes pointless.

I'm a medical professional and drink to relax and in company of friends, but I would much rather smoke marijuana.  I'm not an alcoholic, but I may not be a drinker at all if marijuana were legal.

  8. Alcohol and pot are very different. Neither is really a substitute for the other.

  9. the short answer is no there wouldn't.

further if drug testing was implemented properly,(under the influence or not)there would be a h**l of a lot less alcoholism in the workplace.

  10. Nah, there would be just as many drunks, believe me.

  11. idk I think that pot should be legal and alcohol illegal, cause how many people do you know who gets mad when they are high? how many people die when they are high?
