  1. If you are only a vegetarian for external reasons, only you can determine if "it's worth it."

I wouldn't betray my personal convictions.

  2. How about this- My conscience is clean. Every little bit DOES help, and by not taking part in a practice that  consumes and wastes MASSIVE amounts of resources and causes the suffering of millions of animals, every one who chooses not to partake is doing what they can.

  3. no because there is a lot of people like me who love hamburgers

  4. Of course. Every little helps. Although personally I couldn't only be vegetarian as I know too much about the dairy and egg indusries and the way they treat animals. Vegan is the way to go ;)

  5. Yes. Vegetarians prevent the suffering and deaths of about 100 animals every year. About 99% of the animals killed in the U.S. every year are farmed animals.

If someone supports animal rights, one of the best things he/she can do to help animals is to stop eating them.

    EDIT:

The number of animals that are bred and slaughtered depends directly on the consumer demand for meat. Every time we don't buy meat in a grocery store, we help to reduce this consumer demand and ensure that fewer animals will be bred and forced to suffer in the future.

There will always be thieves in the world, but is that a good reason to give up on your values and become a thief?

  6. Absolutely.  Yes, it's a matter of supply and demand--factory farms aren't in it for the joy of it--they're in it for the money.

No animal needs to die because of my desire to eat food.  Every vegetarian causes dozens of animals a year to not be killed.  Veganism is ideal, but EVERY steak/cutlet/egg/etc. not eaten is one less "demand".for them to "supply".

It will be a wonderful day when the government subsidizes crop farmers who provide food for humans instead of such crops as tobacco and grain for cattle!

    EDIT:

Regarding your edit, only you can decide what you want to do, but the more we lower the demand, the less they will need to supply.  You can not reanimate a lifeless cow or chicken, but you can prevent the death of another animal because you have chosen to not "demand" their "product".

  7. Yes and no. No, you're not bringing animals back from the dead. However, you'e not contributing to the industry that causes it. It's kind of like being a conscienscious objector. By refusing to go to war, people weren't stopping it, nor were they bringing people back to life. Refusing to eat animals isn't going to stop them from being killed, but you're not the one doing it.

Additionally, there's a cumulative effect. While I'm doing nothing for the animals already on the shelf, by not buying them, I am reducing the demand for meat. In short, I am preventing future death. This is obviously extremely simplified, but the idea is the same. (And one person isn't going to make a difference, of course, but when you have hundreds or thousands or millions, it does put a little dent in it.)

Furthermore, the decision to go veg is above all personal. You do it for you. Are you comfortable eating animal products? If you're not, then it doesn't matter why. Don't do it.

  8. Not really. I really think it's more of a fad or an ego boost for those that state that is their reason. It's really illogical.

  9. Yes, us vegetarians and vegans save 100 animals a year EACH.

Edit: Think of how much meat you eat a year when you were an omnivore. Now think of how much meat you don't eat when you're a vegan. When someone becomes a veg, they eat more vegetables and less meat.. sometimes the population of vegetarians/vegans grows so the slaughters decrease. Get it now?

We know that becoming vegetarians isn't going to save all the animals in the world. But a little can make a difference. KFC is now selling Vegetarian chicken in Cananda, that can also decrease the slaughters (thanks to the vegetarians who went against their factories)

  10. the more vegetarians there are the fewer cows they can slaughter! Lets think if not so much meat is being bought slaughters are not going to waste their time and money to butcher them!

  11. Judging by your capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure, I have come to think you are probably no older than 13.

Personally I think even if one person can't help, thousands can.  We are thousands...probably millions strong.  Also, I am not going to use that as an excuse to eat meat.

If that's what you have to tell yourself to be able to swallow those gobs of flesh, that's just fine.  I personally can't live on excuses.  I can however live a very healthy and happy life on non-animal products.

If you eat meat you are personally supporting the meat industry.  I am happier knowing that I am not.  You do what makes you happy.  Just try not to judge vegans or vegetarians for their beliefs.

Maybe after you take a few more English classes you can read about vegetarianism and find out what it's really about.  Until then you can go to www.meat.org and see why I stopped eating meat.  Maybe then it will make more sense to you.

  12. Simply put, it's supply and demand.

If less people are buying the meat, then less meat will be made.

However, there are many other reasons to go veg.

For your health, for the earth, etc.

    :D

    Have a animal friendly day!

  13. No point at all.

  14. I dont think veganism or vegetarianism saves the animals in the long run.  Animal welfare does just as much.  You arent going to make the whole world vegetarian.  So you have to then ensure that the animals have the best life possible - life is a food chain and there is little you can do about it.  They are our food chain but that doesnt mean to say that they should be treated badly in any way - we should respect them as living creatures and give them dignity in their death to feed us.  It is this that should be fought for.  Saving 100 animals a year is okay for some - but what about the rest of them living in bad conditions, being starved, hauled across europe unecessarily etc etc - it is these animals that need the help just as much.  Fight for those rights and you might just achieve something.

  15. ohhh ya you sa ve 100 animals a year for beening vegan

just another reason 4 the DVA's 2 go up and just another reason 4 hunters to get bitched at because they cause DVA's ( trust me go on youtube once)

i see it as, you have an apendex 4 a reason, so use it
