I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a mermaid. So ..it's NOT a "myth"?

You'll have to look at a lot of other "paranormal creatures" first before you get to it. A lot of these are really really interesting. I don't see how all of them could be fake. What do you think?

  1. Its definitely an interesting topic.

In regards to the photo of the little baby mermaid. That is real. The little girl suffers from a very rare syndrome known as "Sirenomelia". This syndrome causes the legs of a person to fuse together during pregnancy. They often develop other complications such as not having a proper a**s or urethra. Thanks to modern technology, these children have a much higher chance of living than ever before.

That particular baby had reconstructive surgery a while ago and from what I have read, is doing fine now.

As for the "remains" and "mummies". Those are fakes. One of the pictures is a famous picture of a "feejee mermaid mummy" first seen in 1842. It was sold to a circus show by a doctor. When it underwent tests to prove the authenticity, it was discovered that the "real mermaid" turned out to be the dried husk of a orangutan's torso and baboon head sewn to a salmon's tail.

Most of the other pictures in that video are fake as well laced with the occasional true photo.

Take for example the picture of the giant in the Archaeological site. It looks pretty real but in fact it is just a result of a Photoshop contest.

As for the actual creatures; I like to believe its possible. Afterall, the world needs a little mystery don't you think?

Thanks for sharing, the video was interesting. :)

  2. There have been mermaid hoaxes for years.  There were quite a few in that clip.  Since no one has ever found one and because there is a reasonable cultural explanation (randy sailors) I am comfortable with the idea that mermaids do not exist.

  3. The first mermaid pictures are a hoax. Well, actually the guy who took them was using hollywood style latex modeling of the creature. I dont remember the whole story, if the pictures were posted online as a joke or a hoax, but it became an email hoax, despite the fact that he was upfront and honest about the fact that it was a latex monster.

The baby with fins I have never seen before, although if it is real, its probably a deformed human baby.

The famous fiji mermaid is the next few photos which was a hoax presented by PT Barnum. It was made by sewing a monkey torso and head to a fish body. You will find a lot of information about it online if you type in Fiji Mermaid in google.

edit: for the record, quite a few of the creatures presented in the video were actual creature. You would be surprised the crazy looking things that live in the seas.

  4. There are alot of myhts in the world like greek myths or animals. A myth in not incorrect but just a thing that people believe are true. People believe that their religion is the right one. But really is there an answer 2 that.

  5. I think there are weird oddities that happen in the animal kingdom just like with humans.

Some of the mermaids pictures were fake. And even in the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum they have the skeletal remains of a "mermaid" but it was actually the head of a monkey sewn into a fish carcass.

Years ago freak shows were really popular. So they had all kinds of gimmicks to attract crowd goers.

  6. a lot of these things are fake, photoshopped, etc. I even saw a picture of a baby with a REAL disease where his feet were together permanently without surgery, but definitely not a mermaid.

I think a lot of them could just be mutations, or objects made by people for hoaxes.

  7. I think some of those are fakes and I think some of those creatures are real. I thought it was very interesting. Thank you x

  8. wow.thanks for sharing that video..That was interesting.
