  1. Yes... because that would give an incentive for drivers to give their all right to the end... it would also bring up another strategic element... whether to save the engine and gearbox, or to go for it to get that extra point that may win the championship...

  2. yeah they should

  3. No, It's all about track position like it should be.

No point for fast but fragile or fast but unlucky.

At the end of the day it doesn't make a difference because he who can be competitive and reliable more often wins it.

The focus is to get the race car to the finish as fast as possible without it malfunctioning and with as few mistakes as possible from driver and team.

Who set fastest lap is an indication of various things depending on circumstance and is to be taken into account but not be rewarded.

What teams and drivers have to do in a race is very clear and they concentrate on that, point for fastest lap , leading the most laps etc etc is unnecessary in my view, overall performance is and should be rewarded and whoever fails to achieve it should work in that direction.

  4. i think yes because its tough to take the pole position. only 1 because more points would be kinda unfair

  5. While it's a good idea, I think not. The whole point of an F1 race isn't who does the fastest lap, it's who's average of all the laps is fastest (i.e. comes first). All you would achieve is getting someone like Kimi (who regularly says he wasn't going as fast as he could have) making sure he gets more points than he already gets. As it is, about half the fastest lap times ever are held by Michael Schumacher from 2004.

  6. I think 1.5 would be more accurate

  7. No ... this is not GP2

  8. Definitely yes!  there should be at least 1 POINT for the fastest lap in a race. Coz its their effort to set the fastest time and that must be rewarded.

1 point is enough, better than nothing.

  9. yeah they should. If not what's the point of going fast? And it will make the racing more exciting. Just take it as a bonus point and it could be crucial in deciding the championship outcome

  10. If they included qualis, Jarno Trulli would be way up there in the championship

  11. Defiantly a fastest lap and 1 for pole position, both are difficult to achieve and go largely unrewarded.

I know i'm only repeating others but its a good idea all the same, good thinking Clan M.

  12. I think it should be two or three points because it isn't always the drivers who finish in the top five who place the fasted lap of a race.  I think it will give the backmarkers something to fight for.

On the other hand, it would also complicate things further because if the top teams get it, it will only distance them further from the rest of the pack making the championship more boring than it already is.   Also, in a season like this where the top teams are only separated by a point each, we don't want a team to win or lose the championship because they got an extra point or two because they one of their drivers did a the fastest lap even though they came in third or fourth.

  13. No. All of the money in F1 is paid out at the end of the year according to how many points a TEAM has scored. If you start awarding a point just for fast lap then what is to stop a team that is not involved in the Championship fight, from just running a very low fuel on new tires, couple of laps in order to try and get that point.

It's not fair to the rest of the teams that earn their points by where they FINISHED in a race.
