the reason I ask is because I heard that the amount of tax coming off the smokers is keeping the nhs going so there for the government would be out more money on the nhs if smoking were to be banned completely

  1. No, what for?  Let people smoke if they want.

  2. i don't think so. not only does it generate more revenue, but if they ban it completely... alot of people who work in that industry would lose their jobs.

  3. No.  They tried that with alcohol and it didn't work.

  4. no cause its something like 80%tax so theyre making a fourtune

  5. Hopefully.

  6. I really hope so because I have asthma but not really bad. My mom and dad own a restaurant and they banned people from smoking inside the restaurant because of me a few years ago. We lost many customers but my parents didn't give a sh*t about the smoking people. They did it for me =]

  7. They really should ban it--products have been taken off the market for far less than the health problems that cigarettes are known to cause.  But, as with most things, money talks.  The tobacco lobby is very powerful, and very rich.  Plus, a ban would probably be as big a failure as prohibition was.  There'd be a huge black market importing cigarettes from other countries.

  8. NOPE the companies pay off the politicians

  9. They profit too much from the taxes, same as alcohol, so I don't think so.

  10. generates too much revenue from chavs right now so probably not but they will keep milking the money cow for now

  11. there would be the biggest uproar ever...think of a smoker, they get angry and all gittery when they have a nicotine pick...imagine all of the U.S. not being able to smoke... like the ban on alcohol in (i think) the 30s.   everyone went crazy and now its legal.

  12. Yes, it's getting to that point, albeit slowly. They're just giving all the tobacco companies time to get into the food industry like Philip Morris already has. Don't worry, they'll find plenty of other things to tax. Marijuana anyone?

  13. No.

  14. The cost of smokers FAR outweighs any tax revenue.....the same with alcohol.

Thewrefore the government would be IN pocket.

  15. No!

  16. ...and then it'll be drink and then ... I am just sick of this silly preaching government

  17. If the EU has anything to do with it yes, as they make 80%+ of our laws I have a feeling it will happen.

We do not, as some think, live in a free country, not any more.

Here is the latest news on smoking and the EU.They will make smoking illegal, then alcohol, whats next? Cars are already being taxed off the road!!

  18. Never to much Money to be made.

  19. naahh. it's a big part of the economy. too much money is made from cigarettes for it to be completely banned.

  20. but they would save the money on smoke related illnesses

  21. No chance. With the amount of tax that the smokers bring into the economy its just not worth it. Banning smoking would only force other taxes up and thats not going to be popular.

  22. There's more money spent on obesity, alcohol related illness and victims and work related stress heart attacks by the NHS than on smoking and "related illness".

It's just Government propoganda that has turned smokers into evil personified.

They won't ban smoking. If they did the problem would then arise of having to explain why "smoking related diseases" have not decreased, a fact born out by the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland's comment of "a ban on smoking MAY decrease smoking related diseases"

  23. Ban this and ban that.  Ban butter knives, they can hurt you.

Ban cars, they can kill you.  Ban bees they can kill you.  Ban gasoline, it can catch fire and kill you.

Ban booze.  Ban construction sites, 2nd hand smoke from dust can kill you.

Ban vacuum cleaners, dust can kill you.

Ban dogs and cats, mites, fleas can get you.

Ban forks, they can hurt you.

Ban this computer,. helping to promote so called global warming or cooling or whatever, follow the money trail.

Ban everything, and regulate to your hearts content, I dont give a d**n, I am going to do what I want, not what everyone else follows.

  24. no, gov like £ from it.people wont stand for it either - toke toke

  25. Has anyone heard of the f'ing constitution?

  26. Of course

  27. i don't think so, but i would be happy if it happened.

  28. Yes, it will be abolished.  What's scary about that is what will come after that. I suspect guns, alcohol and fatty foods.  The liberals, who believe they know more than everyone else, are out to drastically change the America we know.

  29. First of all, who is they?? Second of all the government of any country will never be out of money as it is they themselves that manufacture money, ie: build it literally from the printing factories.
