  1. oooh an 80 minute game of sevens  ooooh you would run your team into the ground sevens is fast  mayn real fast  its so fast  its only played in ten  or twenty minute halves  because well any longer and players will be collapsing

  2. i have played 7's and it is alot of work. it could be done however if you played the interchanges as they do in hockey. that is to say (for those  of you in non-hockey playing counties) you have shifts or lines and when one has to change there is a a clearing play which in hockey means they shoot the puck down the ice and then while the opposition is retrieving it they switch. or one or two players will take the puck into the opposing zone and the other players will switch. in rugby you could kick it deep and then instead of chasing change players or if somebody goes for a run you could not support or only part support and change then.

the other thing is in 7's there is so much scoring that if personnel switched on scores that would probably work as well.

on the other side one may not need many spares as the pace would likely slow.

i have played silly buggers for 45 min and if i can do that then fit people should be able to as well. here in canada lots of clubs play snow rugby which consists of what amounts to tackle buggers played in a foot or better of snow; wearing winter boots, gloves, jackets etc

  3. No I dont think so as someone mentioned the scores would be huge and the game would get boring. However, maybe a 10 aside played over say, 25-30mins each way with  3 subs allowed at half time or if there is injury subject to doctors report at any other part of the game. 5 points for try 3 points for conversions. No points for penalties or drop goals.

Hmmmm! interesting?? Conversions to be dropkicked!

  4. It would be an insane scoring feast for sure.  The problem is that there is still a huge gap between some teams in terms of skill in 7's, although not as big as the 15 a side game.  When you get a game like NZ, Fiji, England, Samoa, Australia etc vs someone like Portugal, you will most likely see scores up in the 300-500 point range... no I am not joking!

The lower teams don't even have the depth in 7's so the top teams would be rolling out professional players from the bench and the likes of Romania are going to have Dmitri the 19 year old farm boy that needs to be home before 6pm to feed the cows... add fatigue to that and boom, 400 points would be within sight easily.  Even if you were supporting the winners, that has to get old pretty fast.

  5. There would be too many interchanges and due to the amount of stops to take players on (if we are talking union here) then that would make it a complete farce.

BTW I have played 10-aside rugby league (under normal 13-aside rules) for 60 minutes, jeez you need to be young & fit to do that...lol

  6. Personally it would bore me to watch 80 minutes of one 7s game.  Its great in its current format.

If you're thinking of a slightly different take on rugby, look into 10 man rugby.  Its quite rare.
