Question:

Do you think this is a weird tattoo for an agnostic person?

I would consider myself an agnostic. I dont have a solid belief in anything. I had a roman catholic upbringing. I wanted to get a tattoo of the virgin mary as a symbol of my upbringing, my relationship with my mom, and my namesake. (She claims she prayed to the virgin mary for a girl, and promised if she got a girl she would name her Mary.) I sometimes have eerie dreams that the virgin Mary is trying to talk to me...Is this just because of how I was raised? It always ties into my life, and I feel very compelled to tattoo it on me. What do you think?

  1. Tattoo aside for a moment, I think that you should consider maybe the Virgin Mary really IS trying to talk to you. She has appeared to people, and she might be calling you back to the faith. I suggest you pray on that.

And now, regarding the tattoo, it sounds like Mary has a very special significance to you. I think you should do it. Don't worry about what other people think of you having a tattoo. You don't have to explain your actions to anyone. Do it up!

  2. Do what feels best for you.  Before you decide to commit to a tatoo - maybe work it out with a drawing or painting first.

    Tatoos are forever.

  3. I think you are very misled.

  4. If it has a personal meaning for you, regardless of its traditional meaning, there is no reason why it wouldn't make a decent tattoo.

If you're going to wear it on your body ad infinitum, you might as well go with something that means something. You're the one who will be either blessed with it, or stuck with it. No one else.

  5. It seems like you may have some inner-conflict.  Judging from my own tattoos and regrets, I highly recommend that you only get something tattooed on your body when you feel like it will enhance your being.  And just for the record, people will either A. know that you are agnostic and wonder why you have that tattoo, or B. when people don't "know you" they will automatically assume you are a religious person.  consider those things before gettin' tatted'

  6. nope

  7. I don't think the Virgin Mary would approve of tattoos.

Yeah, that's exactly why you should get it, be a rebel.

  8. I think that's kind of a cool idea. Whatever you want to do. Just remember, Mary will be looking at you for the rest of your life.

  9. I'm an atheist and I have a big celtic cross with music notes on my upper left arm.  People believe it means I am a catholic or christian so they actually talk to me and are nice to me.  Until they find out I am an atheist.

  10. I think would it would be a bit odd, but there are definately worse options

I saw something like that on a person who said he was an atheist. He had a tatto of a crucifix on this chest and a giant angel covering his back.  I asked him what the angel was for and he said "it protects me"

I am starting to think maybe he isnt an atheist afterall
