There is this girl i know she is quite young and she started high school. She wanted to wear the headscarf so that they get used to her with the headscarf and to show she was a Muslim. But on the day she wore it and came to school no body gave her any support and instead the headteacher told her to take it off unless she gets a letter from the imam. but just why would the headteacher want a letter from the imam? she wore her whole school uniform and the headteacher wouldn't even allow her to wear trousers, just tights, so on the first day she had to wear tights and a skirt with a 'supposedly modest' headscarf.

what do you think she should do? do you think the headteacher has a right to do this?

do you agree that it is her right to wear whatever she wants for her belief.

  1. if it's a private school, they can have what ever dress code they want.

get the letter stating the beliefs, it's probably a school rule, she can't just bend rules, she has to follow procedure.

  2. It depends on the rules the school has. Although I think she should have every right to openly practice the religion she is a part of she also needs to follow the same rules everyone else has too. If the schools dress code doesn't allow head coverings of any kind (such as a hat, or scarf) then those are the rules she must follow. It's nice that the school is willing to work with her though by allowing her to bring in a letter. I'm not sure why tights would be a problem and she'd need trousers? I'm not muslim. But if she also needs to wear trousers because of modesty or whatever as a muslim then that too should be allowed with a letter. So yeah, I think she should be allowed to do as she pleases but understand that rules are rules. If it's a private school then they don't have to allow anything, she could change schools. Be glad they worked with her at all. If it's public then they don't have much right to keep her from wearing anything she wants and she could go to the school board.

  3. All this time people have fought to keep religion out of schools...now does that only apply to a certain group of religious beliefs or to all of them? I mean lets be fair.no one else wants to support anyone elses beliefs.

  4. she has right to wear it if she was studied in public school

if she was in the school ran by other religion, i don't think she should wear it

  5. What do the rules say.  Unfortunately the rules will win.  I can remember way back in the day, (a wednesday for those of you who don't know what "back in the day" means, hehe) we couldn't wear ball caps in the classroom.  So it seems not much has changed.  We must follow the rules, after all that's what their there for.

    Just My Thoughts!

  6. Why doesn't she just get the letter?  Sounds like a simple solution.

All schools have a dress code.  So if you want to go against their code, you have to get permission.

  7. It sounds like a private school. They can enforce whatever uniform rules they like.

  8. Yeh probably..

  9. no it isnt...this is America...LOVE IT OR LEAVE....IM AN ARMY VETERAN....

  10. mashallah, i think that if she is allowed to wear it, that she should get a imam to write a letter for her, if she realy wants to wear it, and theres a procedure and rule she has to follow, she should do it. shes lucky to have the oppurtunity to be able to wear it, if she wants to, some countries dont even let them wear it at all. in turkey (a muslim country) in uni, girls arent allowed to wear it? i dont get it. so get the letter and go 4 it :)
