Question:

Do you think this is inappropriate regarding school and my grades?

Ok, on a dare 2 years ago I let my grades drop drastically. I did this and faked needing to be in Special Ed. The class was fun and hilarious, also it made me like a " Celeb" to my friends. They all think it's a hoot. Now I have started my Sophomore year and I'm thinking of college. Any suggestions of how I get out of this situation?

  1. Actually, many colleges will understand this, good thing you straightened up before the college testings.

    Steps to recovery:

1 - explain situation to principal/parents/watev, but don't say anything about your "friends"

2 - get into the most challenging classics you can handle (or repeat the ones you did horrible in last year)

3 - Completely ace the SATs, ACT and it wouldn't barely matter if you failed out of half your classes!

4 - do the best you can.

5 - be well-rounded and join drama, sports, band, etc (could be fun!)

6 - why take a Study Hour when you could take a "funnish" class like dancing, art, or even volunteer with the school!

  2. ha ha ha ha.

What about all the psych evaluations?

    NONE, because you're just kidding.

Come on! Give the education system a little more credit! They don't just throw anyone into Special Ed, they only have a limited budget, they reserve it for those who need it. Teachers who would have seen your record would know waaaayyy better than to put you in SpEd.

They would have assumed you were having "problems" and out you into counselling, checked you for drugs, made sure you weren't being abused etc etc before thinking you had learning difficulties where before, you didn't.

Don't make jokes at the expense of Teachers.

  3. You beter make sure you get a REAL diploma and not a 'certificate of completion'.

Lots of special ed kids get this instead of a diploma and the school doesn't tell them this will happen. Then the parents and kids get mad. I would be, too.

Tell your parents to ask which one will you get.

If you want a diploma, get out of special ed.

To get out of special ed, your parents have to write and request an IEP meeting and tell them they want you out. You can't get yourself out.

  4. First of all, did you realize that your celebrity status could have actually ruined your life?!  It might have been a "hoot", but now you have to pay the price by being branded "Special Education."  This is not something to toy around with.

You need to do extremely well on your Standardized Tests!  That is the first step.  Then, you need to "come clean" with the counselors at your school.  If you don't fix this now, you may not get into colleges that you want to attend!

Notice that your friends who dared you are not facing this situation...who do you think got the last laugh?

  5. You need to get out of the special education classes. You are not labeled as of now, but the issue will come in when transcripts go out because your grades in special ed classes will be based on modified curriculum, not the same curriculum as a regular ed or honors ed student. Even in elementary school we note a curriculum that has been modified on permanent records.

As far as being labeled- don't worry about that at all. Labeled kids don't get half of what they need to succeed. With decreasing budgets in education, that won't be a factor.

I agree on the standardized tests. And coming from a teacher's point of view, we love to see improvement regardless of how miraculous it appears. Pick a favorite teacher and let him or her be the one who guides you back to the land of the advanced. That would keep your friends hooting at you and keep your Celeb status. The teacher would get a standing ovation and a teacher of the year gift basket.

Best of luck- whatever you do, make the move now. Don't procrastinate. Just ask the chosen teacher for help and start allowing light bulbs to go off.

Almost wish I could be there to see it.

  6. Frickin Awesome! But, uh, you're screwed.

  7. My suggestion is to practice the following two phrases:

    "You want fries with that?"

    "Paper or plastic, ma'am?"
