Do you think this is innappropriate for a school dance?

There is a dance in two weeks. Today I went out with my aunt(mom died 13 years ago)for a dress. I bought this:

http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=50455&CatID=51773&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=147f27f&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CmCatId=50455|51280|51773

I was showing my dad and he said it's too innappropriate(meaning too short)for a dance. It meets the requirements for the school's dress code and I really like it and my aunt really likes it. My dad wants me to wear a dress I bought for his friend's party:

But that's way too formal!

Do you think my dress is innapropriate? And which dress do you like better?

My dad gave in and is letting my wear the purple dress but isn't letting me forget that I'll probably look like a s*lut, which I don't!

HELP!

PS: Sorry if it's in the wrong section.

  1. I like the purple one!! It is soo pretty!!

  2. i guess it's a matter of opinion and taste.  i see nothing wrong with either dress.  i am raising my daughter on my own, and i have to tell you, no matter how hard a man tries to get involved in a girls fashion, he usualy fails, just be happy your dad cares and doesn't want you to look cheap.  he means well, and he may even be right, but of coarse the part you don't want to hear, he is right because he is dad....i know, i know, but it's true.

  3. Your dad just wants what is best for you and is having a hard time with you growing up.  I love the purple dress. Maybe it would make him feel better if you wore a shawl. Have Fun!

  4. Well, for me it would depend on how old you are.  If you were 12, and I know you're not since your mom died 13 years ago, I think it would be inappropriate.  I think it is appropriate for a 15 or 16 year-old.  At my daughter's middle school graduation, (8th grade) the girls wore dresses like the purple one.  Some of them looked good.  A lot of them looked like little girls who got into mom's closet for dress up.

  5. I don't think it is inappropriate.  I think the red one is too mature the purple seems right for a school dance.  I think you father and like every other father has hard time seeing their little girl grow up.

  6. Oh, God! That second dress is really too formal for a school dance. I love love love that first dress. Maybe you should get a shrug or small wrap or sweater to put on top of it to make it look a little more "formal" to your dad. Personally, I think the dress is perfect.

  7. I love the purple one. It is so pretty! Have fun!

  8. With my experience with dresses, I'd choose the red one. The purple has no straps, so you will constanly we pulling up the top because it'll ride down, especially at a dance. The red one seems more comfortable, sure it doesn't show much leg but it is very pretty. The purple dress is pretty too. but for a dance, you would want to wear something comfortable.

  9. i think the purple dress looks fine but be careful some guys might try to get a peek!

  10. The purple dress is very pretty! Your dad is just worried about his little girl.

  11. as a father i see your dads veiw, but i don`t think it will make you look a s**t.The second one is nice but a bit to much for a school dance.

  12. I don't think you're a s**t, but I find a strapless dress inappropriate at your age.  Sorry.

    All the best.

  13. i like the purple dress. i don't think it is innappropriate at all. go with what u think is best. my personal opinion, the purple.

  14. I think it's really pretty!

To please your dad, buy a wrap to go around the top or wear a little cardigan, then take it off when you get to the dance.

OR! You could take the red dress to a tailor and get it shortened! LOL

    Good luck and have fun!

  15. its not unappropriate at all! its really pretty!

  16. What kind of dance is this? Homecoming or just a random dance.

I'll be honest, I dont care for either dress for a 15 year old, I think they both are a bit too mature for someone of your age. If the purple dress had spaghetti straps, I would probably be ok with it, but I agree with your dad that it being strapless is a bit trashy looking and it will give off "that" impression to boys.

Of the two though, the purple is the least mature and if you've already purchased it and your dad gave permission, wear it. But in the future, I would go with something less revealing, keep them guessing about the goods, when you cover up it makes them wonder. With the purple dress, you arent really leaving anything to the imagination. Make sure you take a wrap with you as well.

I would also suggest that you shop with your dad next time, I know its hard to believe, but fathers are some of the best people to shop with, they usually have a good sense of taste, without trying to make you look like a little girl and can help you choose a dress that highlights your best features and assets without being inappropriate. The only dresses my sisters and I ever wore that my father didn't choose were our wedding gowns, we didn't trust anyone's judgements about how we looked in a dress aside from his.

    Good luck.

  17. I think the purple dress is a little mature for a high school dance. It's kind of short & a tubetop may not be the best (you're going to have to keep pulling it up..)  I'd get something that covers your chest & is a little bit longer,
