My son and I just moved from a small town in Texas to just outside of Dallas, and he plays in the basbeall league ages 15-17. he is 15. They have a mandatory cup rule for all players. in our old town, cups werent required. and I dont think my son should need to wear a cup at all. especially since he is a pitcher, not a catcher. cups are really not that important because the kids arent that good anyways.

  1. Better safe then sorry i suppose.

    Baseballs pretty risky.

My brother's a boxer and he always wears a cup.

Just ask your son if he wants one or not.

  2. Do you want grandchildren someday? Then make him wear the cup.

  3. I have seen some bad injuries when the  ball was slammed good bythe batter and it hit someone in the gut, or the face or head.

Let that ball hit him in the testicles one good time and you can forget ever having grandkids,he wont need a cup afterwards because there wont be anything left to protect. You can take the "cup" money to buy him dresses afterwards.

The pitchers usually get it worse on straight drives.

  4. Why are you so against cups? That rule was designed to protect the players. Even though he is a pitcher, you never know what might happen.

I would think you'd want to make sure your son is ok, no?

  5. Your son is a teenage boy who has testicles. These testicles and connecting structures can be damaged by a stray ball or bat. When a bat is swung by a runner or a ball is hit by a bat - it is not guaranteed that some one will not get hit by it. It happens.

That is the reason why -There is a mandatory cup rule - so it will protect and absorb the brunt of force in this area that is most vunerable - reducing the severity / or nullifying of the injury to the player. In your old town the coach / or organization they were not focused on the safety of your child to allow it to be an option as opposed to a requirement.

    Question to Ponder:

If your child gets hit in this area or injuried would you sue them for not requiring a safety device such as a cup?

When a ball is hit - based on the angle and velocity it can do quite a bit of damage to soft tissues / or organs like testicles. Be wise and protect your son - that way you are not holding ice on your son testicles while he is screaming and crying that he is hurting.

A cup is a safety device like a seat belt - just in case - it is there to protect you. It is wiser to have it own - statistically to decrease the severity of a possible injury - that to not have it own.

** Getting hit in the testicles with baseball / bat that is swung hard with velocity

    Serious Testicular Injuries

Examples of serious testicular injury are testicular torsion and testicular rupture. In the case of testicular torsion, the t******e twists around, cutting off its blood supply. This can happen due to a serious trauma to the testicles *, strenuous activity, or even for no apparent reason.

Testicular torsion isn't common, but when it does happen, it most often occurs in guys ages 12 to 18. If it occurs, it is crucial to see a doctor as soon as possible — within 6 hours of the time the pain starts. Unfortunately, after 6 hours, there is a much greater possibility that complications could result, including reduced sperm production or the loss of the t******e. The problem may be fixed by a doctor manually untwisting the t******e. If that doesn't work, surgery will be necessary.

Testicular rupture can also happen, but it is a rare type of testicular trauma. This can happen when the t******e receives a forceful direct blow or when the t******e is crushed against the pubic bone (the bone that forms the front of the pelvis), causing blood to leak into the s*****m. Testicular rupture, like testicular torsion and other serious injuries to the testicles, causes extreme pain, swelling in the s*****m, nausea, and vomiting. To fix the problem, surgery is necessary to repair the ruptured t******e.

  6. Does it really matter? The requirements are what they are. We all have to follow rules at some time are another. Yes by the way cups are that important for safety of the child.

  7. He should wear a cup.
