  1. It's possible, especially if it's the film  which is known to you -  you know the plot, the characters, etc. I have watched "Pirates of the Caribbean" lots of times in my mother language , then in English and now I now a lot of new worlds.

But the best thing is watching TV. I have a Spanish chanel and watch it all the time, my Spanish is better now.

  2. if there are English subtitles what you understand is English subtitles

    :)

do you mean you will understand the content of actions shown?... like when you see two people kissing you will somehow comprehend they are not digging the grave?

    :D

to understand language you should learn it

learning language means making efforts, like using the dictionaries and textbooks... yep, those long and boring things

watching movies (especially with you mother tongue subtitles) is just a time waste in a bright cover which looks like "i'm learning the language"

    but actually you are not

  3. not really, because you don't know what they are saying actually means. You'll just learn how to say random phrases, but it's pointless because you don't know what they mean. It's like if a japanese person watches the terminator a lot, they might pick up "i'll be back" or "hasta la vista, baby", but they can't comunicate with them because they have no idea what they are saying. If someone came up to you sand said that, you would just stare at them. So no, i don't think it's possible to learn a language just by listening to people speek it over and over again. I guess if you had a dictionary or reliable online translator, you could make out little phrases, but you won't be able to speak it fluentley.

  4. You will probably pick up a few words, but it's unlikely that you would learn to speak and understand more than a little bit this way. Obviously babies learn their language this way, but unfortunately for the rest of us this is a skill we lose with age. Even school-age children can't learn a language only by ear most of the time. And by the time you're old enough to be using this website, you'll probably never be able to learn any foreign language without an accent even with the most intense training.
