  1. do 25% water changes every week. by doing it every week you will keep your tank clean and your fish won't be swiming around in their own poo. would you like to walk around in your house an all your poo is all over the place? i bet not! then same for your fish. the water changes are also good to keep nitrates down. i do 50% water changes once a week in my 75gal tank and everything is fine. the fish prefer it.

  2. every other week wont harm them, but i think once a week is ok too. as long as you are treating the water before you put it in, its should be fine. You have to buy water dechlorinator from the pet shop tho (its about £2 or $4) to stop the chlorine in tap water from distressing and weakening your fish. If you did a whole tank change without it, it would kill them.

  3. Hi Sweetie

Um clean your fish tank? Lets see what Da Princess can do. I don't have any fish so........yes, every other week is what my friend says.

    Good Luck!

  4. I'd say every other week, but then again, do you have the sucker fish?

  5. every other week :]]

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?... do mine!

  6. It depends on a few factors. How many fish you have in it (overstocked?), how large the tank is, what kind of fish you have. I have to clean some of my tanks twice a week, not because they are overstocked, but because the fish need excellent water quality. But for the most part I would do a weekly 10%-15% water change IF your tank is not overstocked and do not have large waste producers. If you do, weekly 25% water changes are best. You don't have to vacuum the gravel more than every other week, just a simple water change.

  7. Do it every week.  The only way to overclean your fish tank is to take out everything and scrub it and the gravel and change more than 50% of the water.  If you are changing less than 30% of the water and are not scrubbing anything down, then you can do water changes every day without hurting anything.  You won't hurt the beneficial bacteria by changing the water. It may not be strictly _necessary_, but as long as you leave the filter and the bottom part of the gravel bed alone (a light vacuuming of the top of the gravel is ok) then go ahead and clean if you like!  Your fish will appreciate the crystal clear water!

  8. If you have a 1-20 gallon then I would do every week about 20% of the water. If you gave a 30-50 gallon you should be safe with every 2-4 weeks as long as you check your water once a week.

  9. I do a 25 to 30% Waite change on every tank that I have up and running. They range in size from 2 & 1/2 gallon tanks u to a 55 gallon tank. It is best to do frequent small water changes instead of large infrequent water change. The reason behind that is when you do a water change you will change the temp, pH or other things and will stress the fish which lowers their resistance to diseases. If you do small water changes once a week (or even more often) the fish will not be affected as much but if you do a very large water change you could affect them so much that they will get sick. Also as fish are living in the water they are changing it so going for a long time will change it a lot and doing a large water change will change the water drasticlaly.  If you had to drink one gallon of water every day, woud you like to drink it at one time or over the course of the day?

  10. Depends how the tank is set up. A heavily stocked tank with large messy fish may need cleaning / vacuming every 2nd day.

A large but lightly stocked may be fine going two weeks between maintenance.

It's like saying how often do you need to clean your house. If you have a cat, a dog and a toddler - probably every day. If you are tidy person that lives alone, 2 weeks is fine.

Bottom line, if you clean your tank and do a partial water change every week, it will generally be OK. You can do it more often if you want, it wont hurt. If you dont have a lot of large fish, maybe you can leave it longer.

  11. I think every week what if your fishys get diaria

  12. it depends on how dirty it get within that amount of time, if its reeeeeaaalllllyy dirty before a week, clean it. I Guess it all depends on what you think is dirty.

  13. That depends on what kind of fish you have. And how big it is.Anything under 20 gallon every two weeks with 25% water change every week.Gold fish need more often upkeep. If tropical then with goodf filtration and 20 gallon or more only needs to come down 2 or 3 times a year but you still need to do the water changes every month, and clean or replace filter.I have found over the years this makes for fewer problems and you don't lose as many fish from stress.Hope that helps.

  14. do every other week

  15. keep it like you have it has it keeps your water clean but if you decide  to make it every other week than it would be fine but  you never know what can happen.

  16. just clean it when the water gets dirty.

  17. If you get a test kit, you can keep an eye on nitrate-level in your tank, and just change it when it gets the high end of the "still safe-area".

Every other week is usually ok as long as you don't overfeed or have a lot of fish.
