  1. It didn't work that way in my family.

I don't think you can generalize. I think if parents are too controlling, certain kids will rebel but others will obey (though they may end up resenting it).  If parents give a lot of freedom, certain kids will step up and accept the responsibility, but others will go wild.

That's why it's so hard being a parent.  We have to figure out just how much freedom and how much control are right for each child.

  2. Yeah...My best friend's parents don't give her and her little sister a lot of rules and they're good...Really good. When I first met them, they didn't say 'stupid' or 'dumb' or 'sucks' because they thought it was bad.

  3. I totally agree with that.

My ex-friend's mom was so strict about everything that her daughter was rebelling through drugs, alcohol, and s*x.

My mom and dad were strict with me (when it came to school and family values) but let me have a lot of freedom (able to get piercings, wear what I want, dress how I want) and I have never done drugs, smoked, or s*x at almost 17.

When you tell your kids not to do something, they will. It's like the forbidden fruit, it's so bad to have but tastes so good.

  4. to me thats how it is.. I have noooo freedom at ALL. and because of this I have to SNEAK and cut school to do what i want to do and she wouldn't approve. but i bet if I was allowed to go out and have fun and go hangout like regular teens my age, I wouldn't be sneaking and cutting school, having my grades being affected.

  5. yes i so agree with that.

when I was about 12 yrz old my mom wouldn't let me have a myspace OR a facebook...so I snuck it from her...but one day she just said "Yes you can have a facebook" and so I deleted my myspace and kept my facebook.

And there are many other reasons this is true also.

  6. The way it works with most people is that if they're specifically told that they can't do something (or if it's implied), at this age they will do it a) because they want to prove that they're mature/old enough or b) because saying they can't do it makes them want to even more.  It is true for me, my parents trust me to make my own decisions and I'm more careful about the consequences that way than if they just told me what to do my entire life.  On the other hand, there are some unruly, undisciplined individuals who would merely take advantage of this kind of trust and do everything they really shouldn't be doing merely because they don't realize the consequences.  In enough cases, however, I believe this statement to hold true.

  7. well put it this way the more restrictions u get from having something u want... the more u want it therefore the harder u will try to get that which is being restricted

  8. it all depends on the child and parent. on some people it might be true, but on some it may not be

  9. Not necessarily. It would depend on the kid. Some kids would take that freedom and run with it. Some would most likely stay within boundaries. Besides, if you give a child too much freedom and not enough direction, they may start doing unacceptable things, trying to find out where the line is.

  10. Yeah, it seems pretty true. Usually when the parents dont care, the kid is more likely to do drugs and alcohol at a very young age.

  11. Ummm...from my experience it is less likely they will want to do those bad things. However they end up doing just a little less bad stuff then the others. What fun is there in UN-forbidden love or a UN-lost cause. When it's easy it's just not as fun.

  12. HELLZ YES!!!

  13. yeah, i think it depends on the kid. if i had some freedom i wouldnt be relieved like i am now if im allowed to step out of the house =\

  14. yeah because most kids do that stuff to get attention or rebel against their parents.
