  1. I heard teachers don't get paid much for what they do. Taking care of children is the toughest job anyone can have...but rewarding at the same time :) Don't be discouraged...have you tried looking for other daycare jobs in your area?

  2. I do think you should be paid more.

At the age of fifteen [I'm 16 now]

I was getting paid eight dollars an hour.

I think that football players who run around in spandex and get paid outrageous amounts of money for running around on a field... should get deducted and teachers should get more.

    Teachers deal with a lot.

I often feel sorry for mine!

But it's sad because that's what the world is coming too

    Sports is more than education.

  3. ya mabye like 9 or 10 dollars per hour

  4. that is way under paid. ask for a raise

  5. you are way underpaid. i'm a hostess at a very small restaurant (not expensive) and i even get paid 11.50 an hour.

  6. that depends on what your education is

  7. your wayyyyyyyyyy under paid!!!! i get more then that babysitting, and i babysit 4 kids and i get $10/hr, u need to have a talk with your boss!!!! good luck

  8. How many kids are you personally responsible for?

What is your level of education?

What is the age of the kids?

How long have you been at your current job?

  9. I feel your pain. I've been there. Sadly, the world is a mean place when you're uneducated.

  10. wow only $8 bucks. its very demanding job tat i know so $8 is definately very low. u shud ask for an increasement. it sound like a very fun kind of job but actually it can be pretty stressful at times and also time consuming. and 24 kids can be "a lot" to handle at a single time. so go for it and ask for it. u definately deserve a pay hike

  11. yah ur under paid./

  12. A lot depends on your location.  The cost of living varies greatly.  This salary seems very low, even for an inexpensive area like the middle states (US).  I live on the East Coast.  Here people make 12/hour without college education

  13. Yes, I am 17 and I get paid over ten dollars an hour. Ask for a raise or look for a new day care. Most Christian schools will pay you a lot better. Good Luck .

  14. Well...that's reality in day care.  Sorry.  Are you lead teacher?  Probably not, because you don't have the degree.  Work toward your CDA and if they don't give you a raise ask for it.  It also depends on your area.  Here's an example... I have 10+ years in this field...however I did not finish my schooling ...and therefore no degree.  In our area... the highest I could make in an actual preschool was just around $8/hr because I was an associate teacher and you know what they told me... that was on the high range because of my experience and credits.  Not good.  The actual lead teacher required a bacherlor's degree and an early childhood endorsement and she made $10/hr.  Now when I worked in the city, I worked with a school-age program in the school as a site superviser...you still had to have a certain amount of credit hours but I made $12/hr...so really it depends on your area.  Child care will never be high paying.  There is a lot of work in being a preschool teacher/caregiver...we know that...but those of us that have been in the field for some years also know that we aren't in it for the money.  You are on the right track ...get started with your classes...it will benefit you.

  15. Heck yeah ! You should at least make 12.

  16. Yes

  17. Have you considered going to college and getting a teaching degree so that you can make more money?

  18. You are definitely underpaid. You should demand to be paid what you're worth, or go somewhere else.

  19. You are right. It is very hard to find a job in a daycare that you like. Daycare involves working with one sometimes two other people as a team, and that is very difficult to do. Also (no offence to male ECE's), but this field is mostly girls and people know that girls can sometimes be difficult to get along with ;)

But yes, I agree with you. making that much is not enough for what we do. Unfortunately, being a daycare teacher is not a highly respected profession in our society yet. We are called "glorified babysitters" but it is the people like you who make little pay but still do the job - because you are passionate and want to enhance the lives of the children you with with - who make the profession more recognized year by year.

Good for you for going to college to get a diploma. Your pay will go up once you have the credentials. But keep at it, once you find your place that you love you will be happy and all your work and "paying your dues" will totally be worth it. I'm still in your spot, I'm still searching, but I know it's out there!!

we need to advocate for all early childhood educators...we are NOT babysitters, we are professionals and deserve more respect and better work conditions!! =o)
