  1. No, that would cause unbelievable amounts of chaos. Public opinions and approval ratings can be fickle and short-sighted things, and as we all know the process to pick a new president is extremely long and somewhat painful. So no, it would be a really bad idea to have an automatic clause to remove the president for something short of a criminal offense.

  2. Are you serious? Lincoln would not have made it to his second term.

  3. Yes

  4. no. I don't want a president that answers to popular opinion on every single issue. The average American does not have the time to micromanage the government, and keep up with each and every issue. He's not privy to classified briefings and meeting with foreign leaders like the President is. Public opinion polls can and usually are manipulated to the pollsters biases.

  5. We would really be doomed with such a law. No one would do any thing that needed to be done.

  6. Absolutely not.

If you want a President removed, there is a Constitutional means to do so already: Impeachment.

And what right would a congress have to get that amendment passed when their approval ratings are in the low teens?

  7. Approval ratings are based on non-scientific polls of small samples of random people being asked very subjective questions.  Objectively measuring the approval rating of any politician, be it the President or any Senator or Congressperson, is very difficult and impractical.

As such, stipulating that the President must keep a certain approval rating or face automatic removal from office is inappropriate.  Instead the President is subject to the same consequences as Senators should he/she lose public support, and that is risking losing the next election.  Again, anything beyond that is inappropriate.

Automatic removal of office in the middle of a term should only occur if it can be shown that the official has broken the law.
