last week i was in my hot tub with a few others, we were just talking away until i looked up and saw some lights really low in the sky coming our way. as it came over my house it couldn't have been more that 45 feet above us. it was dark out and i couldn't make out an outline. There was a red light on the front, and two blueish lights about 25 feet away from each other out the sides. I thought eh probably a low flying plane, till i realized it made absolutely no sound. I live in the middle of the woods in PA and it was a very quiet night at about 9:00 PM. It was moving rather as slow too. the time it took it to move about 200 feet was about 30 seconds or so. there is a small airport about 15 minutes from my house where a lot of Cessna's and bush planes take off but it was bigger than that almost 28 feet, or about. it was kinda creepy . it moved about 200 feet stopped perfectly, turned right with out moving forward or back then proceeded right until we couldn't see it anymore. thoughts

  1. It is just the navy. THey go everywhere with there new inventions

  2. Anything you can't identify flying in the sky is by definition a UFO.

However, it is true that distance and speed in the air is very hard to judge with nothing as a reference point.

It is possible that there was no sound because of the distance being further away than you thought.

All that said if you cared to you could investigate by calling the airport and asking them about the flight traffic for that date and time. You might also check with any nearby military bases though they are terribly unreliable in the information they provide.

You could also report this to MUFON (link below) which keeps an online database of UFO sightings.

  3. sounds like nav lights to me. plus its extremly difficult to gauge distance of air born objects, even more so at night.

  4. Nope

  5. its very difficult to judge distances of lights at night. You may, for instance, have seen venus, and a breeze brushed the tops of the trees.

The fact that you were not able to identify it makes it a ufo (unidentified flying object).

However, the mistake most people make is that UFO does not mean alien spacecraft.

  6. Aircraft have certain flight paths they must follow, as well as altitude clearances.

If aircraft don't normally fly over your home, or your residence is not located near the path of the runways, then you should contact the airport facility and ask them if they had spotted anything odd on their radars.

All aircraft, including helicopters, must have strobe light indicators on the wings (the white lights) and the red strobe light (on the belly). Since you indicated you saw those lights, I would speculate to say that what you had seen was a private jet circling to make it's landing clearance.

  7. It's very difficult to judge size, distance and speed in the night sky without a frame of reference.  What you have described sounds more consistent with several aircraft moving (apparently) in unison at high altitude than one silent aircraft flying slowly at 45 feet.

  8. I don't really have any expert opinion about these things. To me, you could do like someone said..call all the airports and see if they 'll tell you if there were any airplanes or helocopters (sp?) anywhere in that vicinity at that time. If not...then I would call MUFON. Actually, MUFON might call them for you. They might have more influence with the people who work at the airport..(or not). At least ask them if anyone else reported seeing anything like this anywhere close to where you were. If it didn't make any noise and stayed in one place for awhile..I'd be suspicious too.

  9. I'd have a video camera out by the hot tub next time.

  10. It's really hard to judge the distance to something in the sky - there are no landmarks, especially directly overheald.  If you've assuming a distance to something, you're also assuming you know how big it is.  It's very likely that what you saw was a large plane much further up than you thought it was.  That would explain the lack of sound as well.

  11. Just to pin this to the wall!  We just had a crash this morning. On tape.  Ask for it...Washington State this morning
