My daughters school did a matchmaker survey for a prom fundraiser. I think this was a horrible idea which just opens up the floor for bullying, "oh my gosh you got him, he is so gross", "you got her she is special needs, you must be a r****d" that is what my daughter said that everyone is saying about the results. I have called the school to complain, anyone agree?

  1. Yes, it incites put-downs directed at others.

  2. YES!

  3. Wow that sounds like a horrible idea. As if kids don't get made fun of enough as it is!

  4. Yes, you done right by complaining, that is awful!

  5. Bad idea, kids are too impressionable.

  6. Actually, I do think it is kind of sick.  These are kids, and for some reason society is trying to convince them that they NEED to have a partner(boyfriend/girlfriend, etc).  The school shouldn't be encouraging that.

  7. they probably did it so everyone got someone to go with and so people can get to know others better. People are so stuck in their little cliches that they have preconcieved ideas of what others are like. This way they will get to know others better

  8. I think its fine. My high school does that, but not for a date.

It's fun to see who you get. It's meant to be fun. kids will be kids.

  9. My school did the same thing way back when (I graduated in '95). In my personal experience it was lame and nobody paid much attention to it after a day or two. Nobody committed suicide because they were matched with the wrong person and nobody made a life long love match.

As a parent I might worry that my child would get caught up in peer pressure and be insulted or hurt. In reality you can't keep your kid from getting insulted or from insulting anyone else. Life is what it is and like it or not we can't protect them from everything and we shouldn't try.

It's a silly poll. It may be shallow and it's probably more fun for the popular and pretty crowd... but in the end, it's still just a silly poll.

  10. I think that was a really bad idea from the school too.  Don't they realize that the kids are not mature enough for this kind of thing.     Good idea to have phoned.

  11. That was a bad idea. I remember my high school did the same thing, but it was our choice if we wanted to see the results. And those who did see the results made rude comments if they didn't like the person.

  12. I think it is weird they did that. That is in a way pushing them along more into the adult world...when they dont need to be thinking about matchmaking and who they are compatible with. THey should just be having fun and enjoying liking who they like...being around who they have fun with. I would consider that extremely inappropriate for a school to do. And how was the decisions even contrived? Was it those who did the fundraising picking people to match up?? Just weird thing for a school to do.
