ive wanted to go to stanford since i started high school. now, i kind of want to go to uc berkeley because im just tired from working so hard. im a junior right now in high school. ive taken all honors courses since my freshman year, and in total, have 4 AP's and the rest were honors. my gpa for my freshman year were 3.83, and my sophmore 4.4. i am aiming for a 4.7 this year, which i believe i can do. i have many extracurriculars, including tennis, orchestra, clubs, kayaking, and volunteering. the one thing that im not looking forward to is the SAT, which i will take at the end of my junior year. i really dont want to worry about my SAT/ACT. i know stanford is highly selective of students. if i get a score below 2000, do you think uc berkeley will accept me? i live in california, am in the top percent of my class, and will have a 4.0 gpa during my junior and sophomore years. thanks. sorry if that was confusing, but i am very sleepy.

  1. If you get a 2,000 on the SAT you did something wrong.  1,600 is a perfect score.  You will get into Stanford and UC Berkley, very likely with a full scholarship, if you get a 1600 and have a 4.0 and extracurricular.  Those schools tend to prefer in state students as well.

I would encourage you to try to enjoy your life a bit as well, grades are good and going to a top university is great, only if you enjoy it.

  2. Average GPA at Berkeley is a 4.2 and average SAT 2050. It will be hard to get in this year with less.

Something to keep in mind is that while Stanford is harder to get into, Berkeley is harder once you're there. Stanford has an ivy league like ambiance where they are not into stressing students. If you need an extension to get a paper in, no problem.

Berkeley on the other hand is a huge, cut throat school where people are said to hide readings other students need, you have to fight to get the classes you need and the curve is ugly.

Personally I'd work hard to get into Stanford.

  3. Weighted GPAs are for scrubs... That said, I put UC Berkeley above Stanford in many fields.  You seem like a pretty bright girl though and shouldn't have trouble getting into either.  Good luck (I doubt you will need it) :)
