My family had a little "discussion" yesterday about this so I wanted to ask on here.
What originally started the conversation was my dad talking about the "blacks" moving into "our" neighborhood and he didn't like it. He claims that they steal and bring in rif raf to the neighborhood(s). I get angry every time he says something so idiotic like that.
Later that night our entire family went out to get ice cream. My mom told us a story about how my brother went to a friend's house and along the way, a black man needed a ride to his car that was out of gas. It was only 5 blocks away. He did give him a ride. But both of my parents acted like this was horrible.
Me on the other hand, I look at it in a completely different way. Everyone seems to be so afraid of the world. Sometimes, they fear it so much that it interferes with their goals/dreams. I know things are bad now days... But why fear everything? You're never going to get anything done.
Okay, let's say that someone needs a ride and they're on the street. And then they get into the car, and they hold a gun to your head, and say, give me everything you have. Why wouldn't you just give it to them? If it is your own safety you're so concerned about, then let them take what they need and be on their way. Normally I'm not a risk taker, but I don't feel that I need to be afraid or everything.
Here's another example. A (black) man came to our door at 1:30 in the morning. We thought it was my brother coming home. And we didn't even bother answering it after we looked out the window and saw that it wasn't. He also went to all of our neighbors' and asked to use the phone. Everyone one of them said no and slammed the door. Then my neighbor called the cops. All he needed was to use the phone because his friends left him and he was from out of state. So then I said to my mom, "wouldn't you help anyone who needed you? Afterall, your religion claims that you should help anyone because they could be God".
What would you have done? How do you feel about this??
(Sorry for any racist remarks. I'm not trying to sound racist. Most of it just led off the topic of what my dad said.)
