A little history lesson, if you please.  The section of Alaska known as the Anwar preserve that has been selected for oil drilling was originally selected by....Jimmy Carter!  (Yes, the environmental wackos have been blocking the dilling that long.) The entire purpose of designating that area is the fact that it have so little effect on the environment.  If you were to take a map of the United States of America and try to come up with the most remote wasteland or place that you would select for oil drilling if you were looking to do the least amount of environmental damage you could not find a more suitable place.

BTW- McCain is still officially against drilling in Anwar.  But, unlike the  politicians in Washington, Governor Palin has actually been to Anwar.  She and pretty much the entire population of Alaska are for drilling in Anwar.  I submit, why should people in D.C. be able to dictate what the people of Alaska can do with their own land?

We have been drilling and pumping oil up here in Alaska since 1977. We simply don't have enough oil here to satisfy the needs and wants of the USA. Gas today in Palmer, AK was $4.35 and diesel was $5.35.

Alaska already has a lot of oil drilling being done, just not in the nature reserves.  Drilling in our national parks is not precedent we should start.  Even McCain doesn't think drilling in ANWAR is a good idea.

theres not that much oil there in the first place

and it costs more money to retrieve it than the revenue they would receive when they sell it.
