  1. And would you have a mugabee or Sadam instead?

The royal family is part of the british way of life! If you do

not like it, excercise your right and emmigrate to Iran, Iraq

or some other destination, that does not have a royal family!

  2. Yes, we should all be able to be head of state. Accident of birth should not be a factor in this day and age.

A non-executive president is the way to go, this would avoid having a president too powerful - we would still have a PM accountable to Parliament. The president would be far cheaper and would not rack up millions of pounds a year just on private flights.

  3. A marvellous idea, they are the original family living off  benefits but for them it's called an allowance.

  4. Yes, bags me Windsor castle.

  5. No.  if we got rid of the monarchy, we would have to have an elcted head of state, and that would be no cheaper.  Plus we would have to have yet more boring elections.

The Queen does a great job, she works very hard, and I am quite satisfied to keep her.

Your comment about the royal family not being British is ridiculous.  Every monarch has been born in this country for the last three hundred years, the last monarch to be born outside of Britain was King George II, and he was born long before his father became King of england.  of course the royal family has intermarried with other royal families, that is what royalty does.  if a person can only be considered truly British if they have NO foreign blood in them at all, then how many truly British people are there in this country.

  6. The Royals do more for this country than you give them credit for , but its no use telling you that as you dont want to know. They are staying , whether you like it or not, so deal with it

  7. so what do you have instead of!,- a president,a dictator, these would cost millions of pounds,so please engage brain before opening mouth, goodbye!

  8. How can you say that?  First of all that is a Monarchy that you are ready to tumble.  This is a tradition that has gone on in your Country for Centuries and one that lends itself to Pageantry, Regality and Tradition.  I would venture to say that it does do your economy very well to have folks coming to see the Palaces and the history of such a valuable Monarchy. It does not hurt you so leave it alone

    Best of luck

  9. save me 66p a year!!!!!!

  10. Yes, you are right.  Aren't they decendents from Germany anyway and fled to the UK?

  11. Didn't someone called Cromwell try this once? what happened to him?

  12. Yes, we really need US style elections going on for 1 year out of every 4, and all to end up with a numpty for a president.

  13. Off with their heads!

  14. Yes, they don't do **** for this country. They don't deserve anything they've got. They've been through less stress in their lives than the average hard working person. And they get rewarded for being born by their parents.

  15. The Queen costs the average Brit 66p a year.

She has her own revenue from her own lands, other members of her family have their own businesses such as stables.

This is where your taxes really go:

Maybe you should complain about them and not the Queen, she does more for this country than the above sterling examples of humanity.

And if you don't like living under a Monarchy, you're free to leave. I hear the USA is nice at this time of year.

  16. I'm with you!!!

The royal family cost us £150 million per year, or as they so fondly like to say on here (to ease the shock) 60-something pence per person.

I reckon that money would be put to much better use by funding our soldiers and police, making schools and hospitals better and getting BRITISH people of the streets instead of allowing a privileged hand-full a life of luxury... but again, i guess that's just MY opinion  ;)

  17. Hangers on? He is the son of the Queen.

  18. Yes, probably. It is anachronistic that our head of state is there just becasue of the family they are born into. The tourism argument doesn't really work as France abolished its monarchy 200 years ago and is the world's top tourist destination. The Palace of Versailles is the top attraction in Europe. We are still subjects, not equal citizens; the monarch, who can't even marry a Catholic, perpetuates the idea of one official religion that they are head of; the Queen can't commit a crime because it is her judicial system etc. There are lots of good reasons not to bother with them any more. I don't really care all that much about the about the 66p - however one thing worth mentioning: Royalists say the Royals are good value because they gave up the income from the Crown Estate in return for money from the Civil List (the 66p) and the Crown Estate now generates four times as much as they get. However the other part of the deal was that the monarch would no longer pay directly for the running of government, which now costs the country something like half a trillion.

  19. No.What a bad idea.A republican rule was already tried wth Cromwell and his son and it FAILED.More people disagree with you than support you,I've read. The royals do bring a certain panache to the UK.

  20. Who would the tourists come to see? Brown? Boris? Who'd get the jewels? What would the soldiers in the red coats end up employed as? How would we sell newspapers?

No sorry, we can't become a Republic. It's a job I wouldn't do for 66p a year - I think they should keep going at it. They're not bad at it - and better lately I think.

  21. Elected? Since when is that the people getting what they want? Do you really want Brown or Cameron in charge? It's a choice between two turds.

The Queen brings in £2 for you a year you ungrateful sod. She links us to our past, reflects our family names and does good charity work.

What have you done for this country?

  22. i dont think so... its just part of history and all that money is thiers i guess from family passed down. you can detrhown them but they will still have money. so whats the big deal. i say let them live their life.
