  1. YES!  YES!  YES! 100% in favour.   Annoying that they don't play" Land Of Hope And GLORY"...........

  2. John, "Some Bloke" is correct. There is no English Anthem.

Most English fans seem Happy enough singing God Save the Queen. What's the problem with it?

Now... WTF does this have to do with rugby?

    It's only a game.

If you really want an official English anthem, have a look here

    http://www.anthem4england.co.uk/

  3. maybe they could be merged into one

  4. Yes, same with football and all other sports that the home Nations are seperate.

  5. yes I do, what else can i say ,

  6. Definitely ,i am English 1st and British 2nd & it winds me up that we dont play LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY.

  7. Yes, I think so. When representing England and not Great Britain.

  8. I think the English should sing "My old man's a dustman" in a couple of years time it will be entirely accurate for the majority of English supporters and players alike as they fail to react to a changing world order and an influx of immigrants is required to fill the gap left by ill educated English people.

  9. Yes. Just like all the home nations.

  10. Yep, if it`s England playing we should sing Land Of Hope And Glory.

  11. Yes it is !

  12. fair play espescially as Scotland have their own parliament and Wales have their own assembly.  don't you think these MP's should be allowed to vote for English only matters, for example  university tuition fees

  13. Erm...whatever you think mate

  14. I definitely don't think England should use God Save the Queen, as that's the British anthem.  The problem is that England doesn't have its own anthem... Land of Hope and Glory is sometimes used, as is Jerualem, but bizarrely there's no official anthem (though a lot of people don't seem to know that).  So I'd like to start a campaign for an English national anthem to be used by all English sporting teams... it's totally bizarre to use the British anthem when playing against Wales and Scotland - they in effect get 2 anthems!

  15. Land of Hope and Glory would be wholly innappropriate as England have no hope at the World Cup and their Glory days are long behind them.

I firmly belive that the England team should sing the s*x Pistols version of God Save the Queen. The words to the original are out-dated and don't apply to England "send her victorious, happy and glorious" is hardly a reflection of the current state of English rugby union, is it? Whereas "God save the queen we mean it man, There is no future in englands dreaming, No future for you no future for me, No future no future for you" seems far more appropriate.

I would propose that in the interests of conserving tradition, the England players morris dance to the tune during the anthems. This would be like a kind of Haka à l'anglaise.

As for using Land of Hope and Glory, I think it would be slightly insensitive and somewhat depressing to sing a song about the extension of the British Empire's boundaries with the aim of endowing the nation with considerable mineral wealth from overseas at this time, although, granted, it would be an accurate reflection of the country's current foreign policy but what has foreign policy got to do with rugby?

  16. No. Land of Hope and Glory is not a recognized Anthem. The Anthem for England and the United Kingdom is the same God Save the Queen.

The Reason. England conquered the Welsh and Scotish and almagamated them under the English Crown.

It is the same reason the Cross of St George is not the flag of England. All that flag is used for is an Officer of Admiral Rank is aboard a Royal Naval Vessel or Shore Base.

  17. There is no English National Anthem outside of God Save the Queen.

The English and British Anthems are one and the same.

Were England to have its own, I would suggest Jerusalem long before Land of Hope and Glory.

And I would have nothing against this being sung at events that regard just England. But at at events where we fly the Union Flag it should always be God Save the Queen.

  18. Yes I think you should...it's played in the Commonwealth games so why not in rugby and football??

  19. Whatever does it for before the result upsets you.  43 - 13

  20. God Save the Queen (football, rugby), Land of Hope and Glory (Commonwealth Games anthem), Jerusalem (Cricket) - this is the variety of national anthems the English use depending on the sport they are playing.

I definately think you should have your own anthem, every other nation has

  21. yes you should sing your own anthem,

  22. When I lived in England we always saved God Save the Queen so to answer your question, no. I think that the English national anthem is fine and should not be messed around with. But I mean, I've only lived in for 6 years of my life. Before that I was a U.S. Citizen and still am.
