Im sure all of you know we are running out of oil very quickly and it is estimated in the next 40-60 years we will run out. As you know a lot of things are run on oil, cars, electricity, even our water systems maybe be for turning on and off our water.

My pondering thought is do you think once/if we run out of oil, will we have to basically start from scratch since we will have no technology to base stuff on, or do you think we will find a solution sometime soon?

  1. A new discovery of oil eating bugs recently caught my eye. These bugs may be a great solution to our present day energy crisis. These bugs could provide methane gas by breaking down crude oil.

Edit: My comment on crisis was overstated, because we do have plenty of oil both on and off shore. Someday, however, these bugs will be a great source. Drill here; Drill Now, Pay less... Newt rocks.

  2. Your estimated 40 to 60 years is way off. There is more oil under Alaska alone than has been pumped out of the ground world wide in the last 35 years. Will we have to start all over ? "NO". Will the world end as we know it? "YES". Read your Bible!!

  3. WTF!! We're not running out of oil!! There plenty of oil under our own soil to be had, IF the environmentalist would release  their strangle hold on congresses puny brains and allow for drilling on Anwar and off our coast lines. Also not just for drilling but also to allow new refineries to be built, old inefficient refineries is 75% of our problem.

  4. Yes, I think we might have to start all over again, though it would not be at all that difficult; the middle ages Humans have passed that period, so why can't we? We would use animals for transportation and have water fetched from wells and candlelights. So basically there would be no more computers or such technology, but living like the Medieval Ages has its own benefits. We would be protected against a lot of health problems, as we do not breathe in dirty contaminated air anymore. We would, too, learn to love our dear Mother Earth more and thus we will never repeat this mistake again.

  5. This is a very intense question.

Everyone has their own conspiracy theories, but really, oil isn't running low at all. We actually have ALOT more and manufacturers keep producing more.

Personally, I think we'll find a reduction in our worries.

But for the most part, we won't be completely cured.

  6. I don't think we will need to worry about it.   Mr. Obama will solve our problems by crippling the US to the point that no one will drive, cause no one will have a job to drive to.  I have little doubt that he will send as many of our jobs overseas as he can, impose new laws on to us till we are most likely the least user of oil in the world.

A 5 world nation will be our new title.

  7. Well, oil mainly fuels cars.  Electricity is actually mainly produced by coal, which will probably last a couple hundred more years.  But it is still an important issue.  We are running out of oil and we are running out of it fast.  It will not help at all in the long run to drill in ANWR or anything because we need to come up with alternative fuels.  Although, the future looks bleak, we have the innovation and technology to move to different energy sources.  I am pretty optimistic about the future.  Honda has started to lease hydrogen fueled cars; also, as the gas prices go up, more people are buying fuel efficient vehicles and the demand for alternative fuels is rising.  I hope that by the time we run out of oil, transportation will run on other sources and and we will not have to start all over.

  8. I am more worried about other products that are crucial to our society. I will use the element of Tungsten for example. We are running out of Tungsten, a vital element of lightbulbs and many other mechanical wonders. Once we use it all up, we will have to scramble for something like Tungsten for us to use. We can make synthetic oils and biofuels to replace oil in a heartbeat, but we will have to come up with some ingenious redesigns for many simple everyday products once their primary resources are gone. We cannot simply stick some other element in the equation hoping it will work the same way. That will not work, and even if we fool ourselves thinking it will, it could have dangerous results. You all worry about the hydrocarbons and I will worry about something far simpler.
