It is a very good operating system for a reasonable price but you can get Linux for free!

No - once I got all the bells and whistles up and running, it was a real bargain.

besides the fact you're getting a very good O/S to run on your computer with built in hardware support for just about any printer, mouse, keyboard, camera, etc that you can buy, you also get an email program (outlook express), firewall program, a basic paint program, basic word processor (wordpad), fax software, video/song player and some basic games plus a lot of other stuff like remote desktop capabilities, defragging software, etc, etc....for less than a $100, it's a pretty good deal.  I know people that will spend at least that much for just a game and don't think twice about it.

No.  It's insanely cheap now that it has been replaced.  I'm not saying it should have been...it's much better than Vista, but you can get a copy on eBay for less than $50.

No. If you buy it once you'll never need it again and for $80 its not bad.

Not really, it's a very clever program.

I bought XP Pro when it came out & the same computer is still running it now, usually running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, it's never been reformatted or lost any data. Very pleased.
