  1. I think it's an interesting theory. You're born into a family and imitate your parents as you grow anyway. They represent beacons of safety (or they should) from which as a child you can begin to explore the world and learn by emulating what they do. I presume that subconsciously one aspires to be as strong and respectful a figure as your parents were.

However then there's the whole "falling from grace" issue when we discover our parents aren't infallible gods. So perhaps the subconscious may then change.

It all depends on the people involved I should think. The link between them. The rest is genetic makeup!

  2. Not in my case. However I have been told that you mustn't try to become the exact opposite or you will end up just like them.

I certainly don't want any part of my mother's lifestyle. She was a bitter, angry, demanding person who made everyone around her uncomfortable.

  3. no but we can end up like them if we secretly agree on opinions and then when our adulthood comes we choose the same choices

  4. I don't think so....just like we're attracted to those that remind us of our mother or father, there's no real aim for it, it just happens. children that were separated from their parent/s at birth can still grow up and be just like them.

  5. No, I can't say for all, maybe some do wish to be like their parents, after all not all people have strained relationship with their parents and some may even look up to theirs... but where the "likeness" phenomenon comes from is learning+genetics.
