I will start working at a Shaw's Deli very soon but i keep on thinking its going to be hard waiting on 100 people at the same times for some reason. I also have this other job at CVs but i say to myself that must be boring and easier to be fired from! So i ask everyone, Is working at a Deli that hard or seem hard?

  1. This is the wrong section to be posting this in but I have 3+ years deli expierience. At first it is a little difficult because you have to memorize all of the meats and when you first start learning to use the slicer it can be difficult to get the right cut. But you catch on very quickly. It really isn't hard waiting on a ton of customers because they each have a ticket. You can't work slow though, you should keep a steady pace. Once you get the hang of it you will do just fine.

  2. Working at a Deli can be very hard at times. Especially on your shoulder and arm that you  use which will more than likely be your right one (after a long time)

Where I work is a large grocery store so it becomes very busy at times and some coustomers are really really picky about things

It might be a little easier if your deli has an automatic slicer or a slicer that stacks the lunch meat ( I miss that one we dont have it any more)

It gets easier as you learn all the prices and everything else but I am sure that once you start they will train you and help you out at learning everything that you need to know

I am sure that you will also be required to clean the slicer as well depending on the type of slicer it is some are super easy to clean and some not so much

You also should be aware that the slicers are sharp and while cleaning them wear the safty glove (i am sure that they will let you know that you need to have it on) ( they should have one)

Depending on the types of lunch meat that you have at your deli some are messier than others such as liverwurst,

Some examples of requests from coustomers is that they want their lunch meat sliced so thin that they can read through it ( why do they want to read through it is beyond me)

Good luck and enjoy the job

  3. trust me that's not hard work AT ALL my Husband rips up flooring and installs them in big commercial buildings and carries 150 lb carpets around etc now that's hard work, cutting deli meat is a cake walk!
