  1. I HAVE BEEN A SERVER, I LOOK DOWN ON THOSE THAT CHOOSE TO LOOK DOWN ON SERVERS, ALTHOUGH I AM NO LONGER A SERVER.  IT GOES WITH THE OLD SAYING, WALK A MILE IN SOMEONE ELSES' SHOES. SERVERS COVER MILES IN THOSE SHOES EVERYDAY. IT IS WHAT WE ARE THAT SHOULD DEFINE US, NOT OUR LINE OF BUSINESS.

  2. no

  3. What in the world are you talking about???!!! I consider every one of my waitresses to be a friend.

  4. No way. I admire anyone who can take orders from people, sometimes really, really rude people, and still have a smile. I know I couldn't do it.

  5. Not at all, but then, I'm a restaurant owner and I worked as a server for a long time.

  6. I don't think so.  I don't think that I do. I worked as a restaurant server when I was in college. It's hard work. My grandparents ate out a lot and they always seemed to get along well with their servers. When I would go out with them then I got to know the servers as well.

But this is kind of a hard question because it's perception. I can't answer for the servers that have waited on me and my husband. I think we treat them well but they may see things differently. I don't know. We don't always get good service. Sometimes they forget about us or sometimes they are rude. I don't know why. We are pretty patient and understanding but people can be funny sometimes.

Do you feel people think they are better?

I used to work in a pharmacy in a rich town. I definitely felt the heat from the wealthy customers. They were so mean. We had a retired oral surgeon working the register. He lived in that community and said that the people were mean. They treated us like dirt. I don't know why. We were very nice. Of course we wanted to treat everyone the same and there was the problem. These wealthy people felt they were above everyone else. They didn't like having to wait or run into any obstacles such as no more refills. What, you didn't call my doctor??  I didn't know. You didn't know? Why not? Completely unreasonable. I wasn't a manager. I didn't have any power like that. If I was a manager then I would be looking into what we could possibly do because I want to keep customers happy.

It's not just you. It's hard waiting on the public.

edit: We always leave a tip. 20% or more.

  7. Definitely not. But the amount of poor service that I continue to get when I do go out never ceases to amaze me. I make sure to give the server the benefit of the doubt and tip accordingly to the service that I feel I've received.

  8. I work in a fast food restaurant and there are customers that treat us very badly . I have been told before by a customer how stupid I was . He did make me feel very small but most of them are nice and when I do have someone lash out on me most customers will stick up for us.......so , thanks to the nice customers , they are the ones that make me like my job.

  9. I don't feel that way at all. I was a server for 5 years and I was treated great and I was also treated like c**p, it just comes with the territory. Some ignorant people feel that serving is a job that is beneath them. They just may not know that it's a great job when you're going to school or trying to get into another career.

I do however expect a certain kind of service when I go out to eat and I feel that some servers obviously hate their jobs and take it out on their customers. I am not a snob about it but I do expect good service. They're working for tips and if they expect good tips, they should provide good service. Not a bad attitude.

  10. I never think that I am better than my restaurant server.  I always leave a tip on the table even if I get bad service.  If the service is excellent with bad food, I may even leave a 20% tip. My grandfather instilled in me to tip at restaurants at an early age.  I was always told that unless we were eating at a 40 dollar and up a plate restaurant that the servers were getting paid at minimum rage or less.  My grandfather taught me that the servers were probably using their tips as a supplement to their income.  I was raised to treat people like I (sometimes even better) wanted to be treated.  No person is beneath me and I am not beneath any other person.

  11. definitley! bcuz im nicer and i know what the customer wants
