Not at all. Whatever the joke is, at the end of the day, a joke is a joke. Unfortunately, some people are just too stupid to realize that they are just jokes. But at the same time, if the joke refers to something very crude or disrespectful, then yes, it is safe to assume that the person is just plain old rude. Most of the time, jokes are acceptable and funny, if they make you as well as the people around you laugh and not get offended by it.
