Do you think young people will be interested in donating blood?

Hey guys! I first gave blood on my 17th birthday, its such a good cause and I've grown up with the idea of donating blood since I've watched my parents donate blood since I was young.

I want to encourage those in my college (mostly girls-if this helps) to donate and get the blood bank to come into the school. What chance do I have honestly, of making this a sucess. What points should i include in promoting it? Thanks, any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

*This is in the UK, so money will not be an incentive

  1. i guess young people little bit scare of niddllee...

but you can try it by say, that blood donation would help someone that really need it. and tell that if we on they condition, we will need someone help us right?

    because blood is seroiusly problem..

  2. probably not without an incentive

  3. yes i would but im a rare blood type they refused me for ashma i asked why they said ashma and no other reasons: (

  4. Talk with people at your school about it and hang some posters around the campus, it will more than likely be a success. Include some of the reasons why donating blood is so helpful and how/why it helps to save other peoples lives.

Last year someone convinced our school to have a Red Cross blood drive and it was a huge success.

  5. in the US money is not an incentive either.  people either will or they won't.  some are too afraid of needles to even consider it.  if you point out some little children who need blood to save their life, maybe they would put aside their anxiety to help.  good luck.

  6. Hey, being a young teenager myself, only at the age of 14... I would love to be able to give blood at my age. For some reason I like it when I bleed or when I have to get blood taken out of me for test, I always ask for more to be taken out. So, if kids are like me, then yes, some kids or teenagers would be interested in donating blood!!

  7. When i think about blood i get this funny feeling in my feet its not nice.I dont like the idea of taking blood out of my body but if i really had to i would,if its for a very good cause.I do think that peopel who give blood deserve a star though

  8. You could try appealing to their better nature... but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. A lot of people are freaked out at the idea of giving blood because of the needles, or because they think it will be painful. Maybe you could talk about your own experience as encouragement (ie; it's not painful, it's really rewarding, you feel good about yourself, etc)?

  9. I would but I'm afraid of needles and I faint when I see my own blood. So, probably not. Unless someone knocked me out first. [:

  10. That is a great idea, and also there are some rare types of blood so if by a chance there is a student with the type that they need and it is rare then by you doing what you want to do you could be saving a life.

  11. I wouldn't mind.Every year medical people from a blood donating organisation here in South Africa come around to my high school.I tried to donate last year but unfortunatly I missed out.Let's hope that I can do it this year.

  12. i would donate

  13. Yes, I know of two that would if they could.

One not at right weight yet.

    One thats just had piercing.

I am a blood donor and have donated as often as I can. It is a very good thing to do. So get as many as you can to donate.

    And well done you.

  14. *in America* it is common for blood banks to come to schools *even high schools*

i dont think it would be hard at all..just staple signs about..maybe talk to some sports teams to get their help

  15. Give away free t-shirts to everyone who participates, everyone loves a free shirt. You could get white shirts and make a bunch of tie die shirts if you wanted. If you held some sort of BBQ the same time the blood bank was there I bet you would get heaps of people giving blood.

    The Blood Drive BBQ.

  16. lots of people cant give blood if they are on meds etc

  17. I think educating them about how it really saves lives would help anyone make the decision to donate. I always meant to, I knew it was a good thing, but I never took the time.

This past fall, my sister-in-law (a mother of 2 small daughters) had an ectopic pregnancy (that burst) and when she got to the hospital - there was no blood at the hospital for her! Thankfully (and this was by God - no other explanation) the aero-med helicopter happened to be there and they had the blood she required. She received 5 pints!

After almost losing her (she is one of my best friends and is my sister, in heart) and knowing my neices would have grown up without a mother just because not enough people donated - I am now making regular donations and I will for the rest of my life. I am so grateful to have her still in my life and if I can do that for someone else, I will.

Let these girls know - it could be their friends and family they will be saving. You never know! Best Wishes! Hope I could encourage!

  18. They just aint intrested. They is a good add campaign to get donors on TV at the moment.

  19. My high school does a blood drive every year, and for the longest time I was convinced that as soon as I turn 17 I would donate blood in the drive. But I'm 15 now, and the blood drive just came around to my school. My friend passed out in the hallway, the nearest bathroom smelled like puke, and I'm terrified.

But we got hundreds of gallons of blood. If you really want to tug at their heartstrings, put up posters of people who would need a blood transfusion, and something like, "You could save their life. Donate." And the date and time or something.
