that is caused by the melting of the west antarctic ice sheet.

look at todays (1/20/08)yahoo science news about the antarctic volcano. it says the melting of the ice cap is contributing .008" per year to sea level increase. thats 1 inch in 125 years. LOOK OUT MIAMI!

  1. They won't notice the 1 inch rise.... The ozone layer will be gorn and they won't be able to walk along the beach to see the water.

  2. every century the water level rises 12-14 inches. Not a inch. They will and the coast might be covered by water. So everyone will have to move to the west in The United States. Which will be good for the west and it will be more populated. Then all of the US flags will be redone. Both sides of the US might be coverec in water. So not 1 inch. More like 100s and 1000s of inches each century. But, your children's children's children's well you get it, will not really have to go through the water level rising over the coasts.

  3. what grandchildren??? Global Warming is serious if we don't make dramatic change we will be drawn to extinction :(

  4. If their doorstep is one inch from the ocean :).

  5. Jesus.....not sure that I can be bothered to explain because I dont think you will understand.

Anyway, are you aware that some places have tidal ranges of as much as 40feet? Some places have  a 20 foot range and some its only a foot os so. But the average change of the sea level in the middle of the ocean is only around 6 inches. This tidal range is caused by lots of very complicated factors, like the rise of the sea bed, the shape of the bay and coastal features for example, not to mention currents and then you also have to think about large volumes of water moving and what it takes for the 'momentum' to stop. Have you ever picked up a bucket of water? Its very heavy isnt it? Have you ever sat in the bath and rocked backwards and forwards and got 'that whole wave thing' going on? Well multiply the bath of water by about a gazillion and you may start to understand what a very complicated world we live in.

So if the sea level rises by an inch dont you think that it is possible that a tidal range of 40 feet could become over 50 feet etc etc??

Here are some links about the effects that have already taken place due to the rise in sea level.

  6. You conveniently neglected the thermal expansion of water and the (much more rapid) melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet.  But don't let the facts get in the way of your political rants.

  7. Its much worse than that!  Scientists have predicted that number could triple an we could have a whole 3 inches by the end of the century.  Buy your boat now!

  8. no way !

  9. Yes if you live in vulnerable areas.   The so called one inch rise would be multipled by the tide.   It would increase flooding and erosion in certain regions.    Areas like Bangladesh would be more vulnerable to disasters.   I think Miami is one of the vulnerable area.    Atleast parts of Southern Florida.   The problem may not be as dramatic as the Environmentalist might say, but there are cause to worry.   Developed nations have recourse and may build sea wall to protect our cities, but you saw how effective the one in New Orleans were.

  10. They will not have to notice, they will be forced to watch a movie in school called the ( Inconvenient Truth ) or as I call it, the ( Inconvenient Lie ) and they will be scared and when all this stuff they said was going to happen, real does not happen, Al Gore will be long gone and forgotten.

  11. Will we still be around in 125 years from now?? I mean the way it's looking now, it seems as though the world is slowly melting away!!
