  1. if im  politician of a certain banana republic,,then my salary and commission from kickbacks and other illegally source funds are worth the education that i have, for starters i have a degree in kleptocracy, summa *** laude, i graduated at the government funded university, whose graduates have turned into self proclaimed freedom fighters, flag burning street parliamentarians *** idiots, flag burning morons who deserved to be at the end of a cross hair of a patriotic soldier of a foreign super power, by the way my salary is the entire national debt funded by the world bank, embezzled by klepto,s of all sort from our beloved republic

  2. First of all, I apologize for my English. It's not my main language. I don't like to think about it... I don't want to affect your life choices but here is my story.

I studied all my life, then I went in to economics. I went to a good school and when I was going to apply for a job. I was forced to try out for a sales job that didn't have a fixed salary. I had to make money on what I sold which made me angry since I had a nice education.

Some of the guys there where highly educated as me. most was not, some guys where even high school drop outs...

I didn't get the job since I wasn't a good salesman. I did however have contacts, and got a nice high paying job anyway.

The short answer is. 'No, I didn't get any better salary cause of my education. But cause of my contacts.'

Remember that I was lucky. And that I choose a bad education, one that's all about being born good with numbers, or being persuasive. (economy)

Become a doctor if you have the grades!

  3. Well, I think people that go into education do it because they love that field of work and enjoy working with children or teens.  I think if you ask any teacher, they didn't choose this field because of the money...it is always something more than that.

My degree is in Elementary Education, Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education.  I'm a first year teacher and my starting salary for 9 months is $33,000.

  4. If you are judging your investment in your education only by your paycheck, I feel sorry for you.  You are in the wrong profession.  I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in Special Education.  MY "paycheck" is the success of my special-needs students.  What the school district deposits to my checking account every month is gravy.  What they don't know is that I would pay them to let me work with these students if I had to!

Also, I continue to find classes I'm interested in taking, even when they do not have anything to do with teaching.  Learning something is it's own reward.

  5. Having graduated from a Masters degree in special education from a top university in my country (change of career), I have discovered that the salary of teachers of children with special needs here is way way lower.

Salary-wise, it is not worth it, that is why so many of my fellow teachers are now working in the USA. Eventually, I may follow suit.

The personal fulfillment, though - knowing that I contribute to developing these children's maximum potential and helping them attain the best future and life they can ever have,  is priceless.

  6. Let's look at the cost of a typical college education. Let's say you spend $3500.00 per semester at a typical state university. Some of this can be offset by the Pell Grant, but for our purposes, let's pretend it doesn't exist. And remember we are calculating about the cheapest education.

Multiply that time times ten, because that would be what about how many semesters it would take to get any degree of value. So we have our first figure for tuition alone. $35,000.00. Add at least $5000 dollars more for books and fees. We are not going to count living expenses because you would paying that anyway.

Now, you must consider the time you are off the job market. Let's say as a fairly smart person with no degree, you could make about $25,000. Times 5 years, that makes $125,000.00

So you pay at least $165,00.00 for your basic teacher education.

A typical salary for a beginning teacher is around $30,000.00. It takes a while to move up the ladder, so let's say you make that for 5 years, which amounts to $150,000.00. Say you work in the field for 10 more years and averaged $40,000.00, in fifteen years you will have made at least $550,000.00. I would say it is worth it.

Almost any other profession other than teaching pays way more. However, there are some things that teaching offers that money can't buy. If you love teaching, then you get tremendous personal satisfaction. Now of course this can be had with better paying jobs as well.

But what you can't buy is time. Teachers get more time off than almost any other profession. How much would you pay to spend time with your kids during holidays? How much would you pay to get two weeks off at Christmas so you could take a real trip?

Teaching, though very satisfying, probably wouldn't be very attractive, considering the salary, except for the time off.

  7. hmmm I think you mean expense ?

I had very little education leaving school at 14 , however I do belive that some people spend far too much money on education having  been poorly educated and are lacking in even the basic skills eg.. spelling and grammer

  8. Job with 2 years of college: started at $13,500, ended after 7 years at $20,000.

Job with Bachelor's degree: Spent about $20,000 at a state college = $32,000 starting - $35,000. second year.

Job with Master's degree: Spent another $8,000 to increase salary to $46,000 starting.

    12K + 15K + 26K = $53,000 increase in wages since I completed my degrees, with a cost of only about $28,000.
