Question:

Do you think your soda looses carbonation (gets flat) when you drop it or shake it after being opened?

I have had this conversation with my friend at work and I know how I personally feel about it, and I am wondering what others think. I am very picky about my soda. It must be cold and very fizzy. I like the top of the beverage when I have opened it and don't like the bottom part. To me, it is less carbonated and isn't as cold.

Sometimes when I have opened a soda, if it gets turned over or dropped, I know it will be flat. Maybe after one shaking of the bottle, it will be okay, but if it happens more than once, (for instance, if it falls over in the car) it will be much less carbonated and flat, in my opinion.

Others disagree with me sometimes.

I would just like opinions of others on this. :)

  1. I like to shake up my pop because I think it will make it more fizzy but when I open it I tastes flat.

  2. Soda contains dissolved carbon dioxide. When you shake it, the gas is activated and separates from the liquid, leaving it flat.

  3. Yes, I believe that sodas loose carbonation easily when shaken or dropped. Also, after a soda has been opened for a while, it looses carbonation. Like if you buy a liter bottle of Coke and only drink 1 glass the first day and leave the rest in your fridge, then next week take it out to drink another, it will be flat even if it hasn't been dropped or shaken. I think the carbonation slowly seeps out after the seal is broken. Maybe I'm just paranoid about this too but I really can taste the difference when soda becomes flat. Its disgusting!

  4. maybe but it would  spill? well when you open the can it pops thats how it looses the carbonation
