Question:

Do you think £500 is a good price for photographer for a wedding?

Iv been quoted £500 for a wedding photographer. Thats includes: - Bride getting ready at home - principles arriving at the church - shots throught the ceremony - signing of the register - leaving wedding venue - the photo call - arrival at reception - speeches - cutting the cake and candid shots throughout the day. He then puts all the pics taken onto a cd so that you can get whichever photo's you want developed and you get to keep the disk so you can get extra copies of pics to give to family members. Is this a good price??

  1. How many hours is this?

Check what the rights you get are. That sounds pretty good, but I'd want something in writing about the rights to the photos.

  2. yes its okay but odnt let him sting you on the disc, i was given a disc and after i chose my pics the photographer put a lock on dics so i couldnt get any off it and after 30days the dics went blank and couldnt look at them at all.

make sure he is clear that you will be allowed to have the disc to get more off if you want and that they dont put a lock on the disc as they do this so you will have to return to him if you want more printing off so he makes more money like that aswel.

    congrats by the way xx

  3. thats a rip off...

  4. For sure but check the reason why he is so cheap you never know!

    :)

  5. check with other companies/ photographers first that's very cheap

  6. if he is not printing the pictures for you then no it is not a great price. for £500 you should at least expect him to print out an album for you as well as give you the disk. If you are looking to save money on you photos but not cut down on the quality then my suggestion would be to go to your nearest college and see someone who is doing photography course and is specialising in wedding photography if they are good they will have a portfolio and you can discuss money with them! X

  7. ours was $250,000

me nd my husband are richsoooooooooo

    lol

  8. Yeah!, that's a good price and as stated I would want to see other work he has done.

I would query '....you get to keep the disk so you can get extra copies of pics to give to family members'  I very much doubt that he is going to give his work away like this.  Likely to be low res images which cannot be printed. (If he's got any sense)

  9. To be honest it seems very cheap for a photographer. In my research for a photographer the last few months I have never seen one that cheap. The cheapest I have seent was about £650 for the cheapest package and even then the quality of the pics were not all that. Don't forget that you want to be looking at these images in 20 years time and need to make sure that the quality is the best it can be. My photographer is quite pricey £1620, however I have seen a wide variety of his work and spoke to him in person for quite a while and was impressed with his work and attitude as I know that I want the pictures to last in years to come. I would recommend going to various wedding shows and meet the different photographers, talk to them and look at their work then make a comparison. You will then get a true gist of what is reasonable and what is not :)

  10. This is very cheap/

  11. A good friend of mine just paid a 500 DEPOSIT for a wedding photographer!! So I'd say you're doing well so far. And that's cool that you get to keep the cd as well. Good price. Just talk to him about what he expects on the day. Maybe he's after a piece of wedding cake :P

  12. yeah that's around the starting price, most of the packages at that price do not include an album thou,

  13. That seems reasonable, but do remember you also have the cost of all the pictures afterwards. You have to same things included in your package as i have in mine and mine is £895 but that includes an A3 reportage album with approx 300 pics in it. So it just depends on what sort of pictures you want after the wedding. If you are happy with a traditional photo album, then go for it, it is a good price. While i was looking i got some ridiculous quotes. Also make sure you own the copyright to all the pictures. I found lots of photographers own the copyrights themselves, which i think is a bit silly really.

    Good luck with your wedding!

  14. Do check samples - this is much cheaper than the going rate - worth trying to find out why this is!  Does the photographer in question have the right equipment/professional insurance - and is he experienced?

    Link below might help.

  15. I think it's a good price but make sure you see a portfolio of previous photos to see if they are done to your satisfaction.

  16. Yes but I would want to see his previous work

  17. Sounds good, but do you want a professional album? Ours cost another £600 but if you're okay with a CD then it souds like a good deal(providing you like his style and photos).

  18. That's almost too good to be true! I paid the equivalent in USD for mine to have a photography student take them. You get what you pay for not only in pics but in professionalism. My DJ was about to kick her in the rear! Ask to see a portfolio, and ask for references. Call the references. Ask the references about punctuality, professionalism, and their satisfaction level. I thought photos wouldn't be that important, I'm pretty disappointed now.

  19. well, its a bit more than i charge, but yes, its a very good price... dependent on A whether the photgrapher is any good; B how many shots you get... and how he presents them to you.

i do exactly this; i spend maybe 10 hours with the B&G, and will produce on average 1200 shots. (A3 sized 8mp) all delivered on 1DVD, and around 6CD's, and i give em 4 sets. brides family, grooms family, friends and one for safekeeping)

ive been doing wedding photography for over 25years, ive been teaching it for 15years... and ive been doing it digitally for the last 3 years...

and its ironic, but it takes longer to turn edit crop and frame the photos in the PC than it does to take them... and in honesty, the customer rarely gets a shot straight out of the camera...

make sure you see the guys previous work, and get some phone numbers so you can get a reference off THEM...dont take his word for it..check... weddings are one of them jobs you cant go back and do again...

    congratualtions and good luck...

  20. £500, shoot, I'd do a days work for £300 given a camera. Don't you know someone who likes to click a cam? Arrange with them what photos you want a where, give him access all areas, draw up a plan for him for where to be when, a good high MB digital camera and good printing paper. Or put it on a C.D yourself and mail them out in your thank you for coming e-mail. All he need to do is move about, click an awful lot, do a few staged shots, ask them to say cheese or watch the white rabbit and you have it. Of course, said person would offer their service free as a wedding pressie. How often have you looked at guests wedding photos that are not too dissimilar to the professionals? and with a bit of p.c photo editing, you have professional quality photos.

  21. Depends what you want, if you can afford him and you like his work then go for it.

I only want an album of photos for my wedding next June so we have picked a photographer that will be with us all day and only charges £265 for 30 8" x 6" in an album.

If you have done your homework then you will know if you can afford him,

    good luck on your day.

  22. Snap his hand off...and quickly.  Most photographers charge over £1000 and offer a selection of prints at extra cost.  To find one who is willing to give you the CD of the photographs is brilliant.  Check out his other work first, just to see what you are getting.
