Do you tip a contractor?

I hired an independent contractor to build my fence. It was a small job as one side was already done, plus I am painting it myself. I paid $2738 total (materials/tax/labour). Should I give him a tip?

  1. I don't think a tip is expected, but if he did really good work ask for some business cards to pass on to friends who like his work.

  2. if you are really pleased with his work, you can give him a bonus.

  3. No.  He(she) is in business and quotes an estimate that should include all costs.  This is a contract, not a service.

  4. does he have another guy doing the work? If he does have another guy doing the work than yes but you only tip the workers not the contractor.

If hes doing the work himself with a helper you still dont need to tip him but its nice when the homeowner buys lunch for a day or two.

You dont need to tip him because its enough you gave him the work and your already paying good money for his service I presume.
