  1. Yes, I do. I usually tip about 10 percent of the meal. I know, just a bit pricey. But there are so may excellent places all over Europe and Austrailia to dine, that I just can't help myself. But In actuallity, tipping does benefit a lot.

  2. yes! if the service is good! I used to be a waitress and its really hard work!

  3. Yes,if the service warrants it. I also worked as wait staff so I know how hard the job is. If anything, I tend to over tip as long as the service is good.

  4. I don't tip in pubs since you generally pay for the food at the bar. But yes in restaurants, doesn't everyone?

  5. i always tip at least 5% of the bill

  6. DEPENDS ON WHETHER I ENJOYED IT OR NOT.

  7. I always tip if the meal was good and the service was excellent.  However, I have also been known not to tip when receiving bad service.

  8. Yes unless the service was bad. I used to be a waitress and remembered people who didn't tip. I dont want to be remembered for that

  9. Always tip a restaurant when the serves is good. Why? because sometimes it encourages the waiter to work harder if he/she gets tips more. In return better service for the customers.

  10. I do.

  11. in restaurants i normally tip unless the service was complete s*** bars no way cos they charge a fortune anyway

  12. I dislike the culture of Tipping intensely. It is endemic in the US and like all bad things filters over to the UK where we embrace the worst elements.

In the US bar tenders will generally start up a conversation involving tipping...just to let you know that you are obliged to give one.

I dislike intensly the attitude that these people should be entitled to tips simply for performing their jobs.

Yes if they have performed exceptionally, but as a rule???

Does this not encourage low wages and hence poor proffessional standards????

If these people were paid properly, the profession valued, standards could rise.

Whilst we continue with the blind sheep like attitude we encourage low wages and poor service.

    Wake up.

In the US in some places (especially tourist places)if you dont tip the barman at least after most drinks you find it harder and harder to get served

In one place in Florida, after not leaving the change after every beer,  the girls put up a sign "Tipping is not a city in China" on the tip jar.

I would like to remind them and everyone else Tipping is not obligatory either, and it is disgraceful that failure to do so results in extremely poor service and barely disguised impudence.

In what other job can someone basically refuse to perform all but in a token way if they are not promised a year end bonus??.

In the UK people are protected by law ie their is a minimum wage. That is a reasonable one, and these people will not starve if their wages are not topped up by tips.

I assume the same is true of the US.

    Where does it stop??/

Do we tip the train driver? the Airline pilot?

    Why not??

Why do we only tip waitresses and Barmen?

The answer is simple...because if it looks like we are not going to, or didnt last time we are going to get terrible service from people who are paid a wage to perform it.

    WAKE UP.

In most of Europe I think they have it about right. If you leave ANYTHING it is gratefully recieved as a sign that you are pleased. 10% would be exeptional..normally 1-2 euro will be gratefully graciously recieved. Lets hope this nasty creeping American habit doesnt spread any further.

I do, by the way, tip if I am pleased, up to 10% in UK, nothing if not deserved.

Never more than 10% in US which is always frowned on.

  13. Yes, I always leave at least 10% of the total cost of food.

  14. it's only right!

  15. I always tip in restaurants if the service and food have both been good - usually about 10%. Pubs are a little different - if I pay at the bar I never tip there and then, only after the meal. I am always wary of someone nicking the money in a busy pub if I leave it on the table.

  16. Yes unless there is already a service charge added onto the bill, if there is then you do not need to tip.

  17. Yes I do tip in restaurants if the food is good I tip 10% if the food is bad then 2%

  18. If it's full service (the waiter/waitress takes the order and delivers the food) I tip between ten and twenty percent depending on the quality of service.  However, if the food and service are really bad I've been known to leave two cents at the table.  I don't want them to think I forgot to tip, but to know what I thought of the place.

  19. yes, i think a good tip is 7%

  20. I always tip when we sit down to eat. How much mostly depends on how good the service was, unless my total bill is really low. Then I leave a couple of bucks.

  21. always. always. always.

servers and bartenders are rarely paid good wages, and tipping is not only a sign of courtesy, but, can be helpful in getting good service the next time you're there.

i always remember a good tipper, and am bound to be friendlier, chattier, and extra willing to help when i can remember their face from time to time. not to say i don't give good service to others, but it definitely helps to jog their face into memory

  22. yep
