  1. I work at Sonic so I love questions about it! Tipping is definitely appreciated as it is with any restaurant. Carhops carry orders to your car for you, so base your tip off of your order. 10% is a reasonable amount, but if the order is very large, then even more would be great because we usually try to make only one trip per car. If you have lots of Route 44 or large drinks, bags of ice, or lots of ice cream then definitely consider tipping 15 or even 20% because those tasks are time consuming and we work very hard to get orders out ASAP. Tipping a little more during Happy Hour is also very nice; I mean you're getting 1/2 price fountain drinks I think you can afford it!

  2. Yes you tip......I usually just tell them to keep the change

  3. I do. Usually I let them keep the change from my purchase.

If the amount of change left is embarassingly low (like less than 10%) then I'll usually add a quarter.

If the amount of change is too much, I'll just ask for 50 cents (or whatever an appropriate amount of change that leaves a reasonable tip).

  4. Of course, you have to tip the waiters/waitresses at the world's greatest eating estblishment ever established for eating.  I would usually tip them at least a couple grand, though I never carry that much on me so maybe a buck or two.

  5. No. They don't get waitress/waiter pay. They get more.

  6. This is asked a lot.

Sonic people get minimum wage. You don't "need" to tip. They do not EXPECT a tip (where a waitress would expect a tip) but they would like a tip (and who wouldn't?)

Don't tip them how you would a waitress, since the job duties aren't comparable, but giving them a dollar or the left over change won't hurt. Just a kind gesture....

  7. Yeah at least a buck or two.

  8. Some carhops earn minimum wage and some earn waitress wage.  The sonic I work at used to give minimum wage, but when minimum wage went up recently, we had to start claiming tips instead of earning $6.55.  So since you don't know how much they earn, tip about 10% just to be safe, more or less depending on the niceness.  And give a little extra if they skate, because we fall.

  9. only if there is a drive thru window.  If there isn't one, then I had no choice but to sit in my car and wait.  If there is one, and I choose to be waited on anyway, then, yes I tip a $1 or 2, depending on if they give me everything I need...ie..straw, condiments, napkins, mints.

  10. only tip on the food not the tax 10 percent only
