When dining at a restraurant that serves alcohol, do you you tip the server extra for having to go to the bar? I normally give him/her a couple extra bucks because if I went to the bar myself, I'd tip the bartender. What about you?

  1. No.  I only tip extra if they do the job above and beyond...you know without bugging you and your date, etc.

  2. I always tip my server extra for having to go to the bar to get me drinks. I also make sure I tip the bartender. If you tip extra the server usually remembers it and the next time you go they might just hook you up with better service and a better drink next time. Besides servers make so little per hour that they depend on tips to make it worthwhile.

  3. I was a waitress myself, and it's very annoying if people who are sitting AT THE TABLE HAVING DINNER go to THE BAR to get their drinks! Made me feels useless and irritated, and made them look cheap!

Thank goodness, I barely had that problem, most guests were classy enough to let me serve them and not running all over the place, creating confusion.

    But this is New York..

  4. yes, I do tip extra because they have to tip out to the bartenders for making the drinks. You're a good person. Thank you.

  5. normally you would tip the server as if you was tipping the bartender. otherwise, the next time u go in and she/he remembers you, you just might get  a little extra in ur drink..i don't think that would be pleasant

  6. yeah i do the same thing, i just think its a nice gesture makes the waitress's night go better if she isn't getting a lot of tips too begin with.

  7. yes. if she's s**y!

  8. That's very considerate of you! We servers appreciate patrons like you. Servers usually are required to tip the bartender a percentage of their alcohol sales for making the alcohol beverage. Because I am a server, I do tip well when I go out to eat, but just like every patron, only for good service.

  9. People dont realize like 10% of a cocktail waitress's tip goes to the bartender.. Ive been a waitress and a bartender. If I know you are a good tipper, your going to bet better drinks from me... But if I was serving that person a few above me, I would "do my job" and serve her, but she isnt going to get good service nor good drinks. People dont realize that waitress's/ bartenders make 2.15 hourly most of the time. Try living off 2.15 an hr and still eat and pay your bills.. You cant. For every hour you squat at a table (like at hooters or sport city) and sit there watching the game for three hrs.. Think about it, you havent moved for three hrs and none of the other customers do either. For that three hrs, you tip 5 dollars, as do the other 5 tables.. Thats 30 dollars in three hrs, plus they have to tip out...So cut that 30 to like 22..After a game, people leave, the place is vacant.. You just put gas in your car and thats it

  10. I will not lie, I will not tip a server just for geting a drink from the bar.  I tip him/her on performance ONLY.  Depending on how I feel, and how much money I have in my pocket.LOL Of course if I drank at the bar, I would tip the bartendar, but not the server who gets the drink.

  11. Of course

  12. please tip, its a nice thing to do.

  13. Yes you should always tip when you are being served anything.  As a general rule of tipping is the tip should be 10 to 20 percent of your bill.  You can tip more or less depending on the level of service you recive.  If your waiter or waitress sucked  you may not want to tip at all and that is up to you if you feel that the person wasnt doing their job.  You can leave more if the person does an excellent job. Remember these people generally make 2 to 4 dollars an hour and tips is how they pay the bills.

  14. only if he's cute lol

  15. yes. in America, you should always tip any kind of server. that's where their payment comes from. trust me, i know. because technically, they are working for you, not directly for the restaurant/bar. of course they are employed by them. but that's why they make such a small amount hourly, because costumers are expected to leave a tip. all of their services are for the costumer. they don't do anything directly for the restaurant other than sell drinks and food to people. and serve it to them.

    so yes. absolutely.

  16. yea, always tip!

  17. If it's my money I don't tip...maybe if they are cute. I don't see why really...isn't it their job? It pretty much depends on the environment and the tipper. If it's packed and they are really busy...maybe (again if they are cute) but if it's empty and they aren't attractive just tell yourself it's their job and you won't feel bad.

  18. ABSOLUTELY!

  19. Always,  they have to tip out the bartender at the end of the night, and servers rely on tips.  If I can't afford a tip I shouldn't be out anyways.

  20. I tip no matter what I've ordered.  I waited tables throughout college, and it is a toughass job.  It used to chap my hide when folks would come in and order just desserts, then leave me a $1.00 tip because, hey, it was only dessert!

What they failed to realize is that, for me, desserts were actually more work than entrees!  For a meal, I just had to put my order into the kitchen, but for dessert, I had to prepare it myself at the wait station.  (Don't even talk to me about making shakes!)

Sorry, that was a tangent unrelated to your question!  Felt good to get it off my chest!  LOL!

But my answer is that, heck yeah I tip well for whatever!  Waiting tables is a largely thankless job, and they work hard for their money.

  21. If the waiter/ watress has to go to the bar and order the drink then she is usually required to give the bartender a set percentage of that.  That is settled at the end of the night.  I would always give them extra if you have them go for you since they are paying for it out of their tips.

Here's another fun fact:  At the end of the night she also has to pay the busboy a small percentage of her total bills as well.  If someone leaves without tipping at all, the wait staff actually has LOST money to wait on them.

  22. Well, if they can sell you well on drinks, the bill will be bigger.  Bigger bill equals bigger tips.

  23. ALWAYS tip your servers

  24. i usually try to tip a little more anyways whether i got a drink from the bar or not.  that person probably worked his or her butt off that day.  I'd like them to know that their hospitality is appreciated and noticed.

  25. Yes I do. I'd like them to know that their hospitality and management is appreciated and noticed.

    Regards.

    Fiona.
