  1. Interesting question.  I will tip depending on the place.  If I frequent the same restaurant, then I may consider tipping.

  2. No never.=)

  3. Certainly not.  When you go into a store and buy an article you don't tip so why over the counter purchase at a food outlet.

  4. I work at a restaurant and although I don't expect a tip (mostly because people feel entitled to their money), I'm always grateful when they do.  Servers have to tip the chefs, busboys, etc according to their overall sales, not the tip the customers leave them.

  5. The employee working take-out almost always makes the same dismal rate as a regular waiter / waitress.  If you look, there is often a tip jar near the register of the takeout.

At some restaurants, the employee working takeout makes better tips, as they see many more customers over a shift, but they also work harder prep'ing all those meals.

  6. Expediting to-go orders is a pain in the ***. It's good to tip about 3-5% of the bill.

  7. Not take out...

  8. sometimes I will toss the coins in the tip jar if they have one, but not really as a tip

  9. You don't really have to because they're not really waiting on you or cleaning your table. It's like Starbucks: you don't have to tip them, but if you want to put your extra change in the tip box, then go ahead.

  10. The answer should be YES.  Who do you think is boxing your order, gathering the food, making sure that you have everything you need to enjoy your meal at home?  It's not magic and it doesn't happen on its own.  Someone had to take the time and care enough to make sure your experience at home is a positive one.

  11. No,sure don't.

  12. Yes, I tip on To-Go orders and so should you!

You don't have to tip 20% but you should tip something. All the restaurants I've ever worked at either the bartender puts together the To Go stuff (while they're serving customers and making minimum wage or less) or whatever server was unlucky enough to answer the phone when the order was called in. It's unlucky because we know we are going to have to work on the order (Placing the order, making sure it comes out correct, putting correct sides with everything, putting napkins and silverware, etc.) but we also know people hardly ever tip unless they're in the industry and know that putting together to go orders sucks. Plus it takes away from the attention we can spend on our other tables who ARE going to tip us.

  13. nope

  14. Goodness, so many cheap people in the world.  There's not a food fairy that magically presents you with food.  Someone has to take the order, cook it, put it together, get all your utensils, etc, so of course they should be tipped.  That's time they have to take out of taking care of their dine-in customers (and thus tippers).  So, of course you should tip.  You don't have to tip 20%, but I'd say nothing less than 5-10% for sure.  It's just human decency and common courtesy.

  15. that will have to be a negative.
