  1. If the threads are viable, and the compression fitting intact, there is no need or reason to use plumbing tape.

    Just my two "sense"

      In your case Overkill won't hurt, it's just not necessary.

  3. No. The fitting themselves seal the connection.

  4. Coper is a soft material, you should not use the Teflon tape on coper.  If it is a soft metal it should seal itself.

  5. DIY Doc is correct.  The metal theads just hold the beveled sections of the connectors together.  The beveled/flared sections make the water tight connection.

  6. In a compression fitting, the threads do not form the seal the compression ring does the sealing. Therefore it would be a waste of tape to try and wrap the threads.

  7. the braided supply lines actually use a rubber gasket in the female thread end to make the seal unto the compression fitting thread.  so it's not actually a comression fitting.  they work really good,  no need for tape.  but don't over tighten it.
