  1. I had a treasure chest which I used for show and tell. The children would place their show and tell inside it when they arrived, and knew they weren't allowed to take it out from there, except for show and tell time, and again when it was time to go home. The children absolutely loved this, and it really encouraged them to bring something in to show! (I always stipulated it wasn't allowed to be a toy, and we ended up with some really creative things coming in, and parents were amazed at how their children would come up with their own ideas of what to bring!)

I also used to have a "song wall" with a picture representing their favourite songs - using velcro - and would select a few different children each day, to choose a song. When I introduced a new song to the children, they helped decide if it should go onto the wall or not.

No preschool teacher would be complete without a "story sack". When I would sit down in front of the children with my bag, you could see them almost jumping out of their skin, holding their breath to see what was about to come out of the bag... also a great way to encourage the children to guess, and generate some great discussions!

  2. I used treasure boxes during nap time. Not all kids took naps, and nap time was torturous for them. I had little shoe boxes that i themed. For example, a School theme box would have a little chalk board in it and chalk. It might have plastic letters or little notebooks and stickers. At first, all of the kids tried to stay up so they could play with the boxes. i would not hand out the boxes until halfway into nap time. The kids that needed a nap would fall asleep and the others would still be awake. sometimes i put th boxes in the center area so that everyone would get a chance to play with it.

  3. At my baby's nursery they have a box of toys that they get out at the end of the day.  Each toy has a song related to it - like there's a toy bus and they sing 'The Wheels on the Bus' - they get the toys out one at a time and give it to a child while they sing it's song.  Then that toy goes back and the next toy goes to another child.

Is that what you mean?  It's very sweet!
