I just recently got a Knifty Knitter and don't understand how I know how much yarn I need for things like the hat (the one that is in the instructions)?

I am also not quite sure how to get started.

Please help if you can.

Thank you

  1. They are fun... I love them... the instruction enclosed are pretty easy to follow however if you need more help email me at treecelynn@yahoo.com and we can talk (I'll give you my cell phone number in a separate email or something).

If you are using regular yarn (worsted weight) it is best to use two strands of yarn to make a hat.  The adult hat will use about 2/3s of a regular size skein. If you are using a fancy or thick yarn you can use a single strand and a regular skein will make 1 or 2 hats (I usually can get 3 hats out of 2 skeins) depending on how tight you pull the yarn and how big you make them.

  2. those are so cool!! you will be able to make 3 of the hats out of a 4 ounce skein of yarn.

to get started do a slip knot and put it on the k**b sticking out the side. then do e wraps around the ring, either direction you like, just remember which direction you are going. Don't pull the yarn very tight sort of just lay it around so it isn't floppy. Do 3 rounds to start.

pick up the bottom 2 wraps on the first post with the little wire hook and lob them over the top. when you get all the way around, do another wrap around all the posts and you are off and running.

to finish this hat I threaded a needle and ran it into the loops on the posts, lifted them all off and tied a knot on the inside. If you want a pompom on top tie your knot on top and add the pompom or tassel then run the end back through to the inside.

Note, your hat has to be about 12 inches tall, 18 inches gives you some roll room on the brim.
