Do you use umbrella school for homeschooling?

My son will be in K this year and I am considering homeschooling but I would be more confident if I would have an umbrella school to help me deal with homeschooling. How does it work and how do I find an umbrella school in Florida (Pasco)

  1. Try this site: http://www.fpea.com/ It is one of the state-wide homeschooling organizations for Florida. They should be able to answer all of your questions.

Since your son is going to be in K this year, he may not have to be "official" yet. The minimum age that they have to be in school in Florida is age 6 by Feb. 1. If he doesn't fit the bill age-wise you don't have to legally do anything for him. For your own confidence, though, it sounds like you need the help of a group to get you through this first year or so.

    Best of luck!

  2. I know some US states have umbrella schools to get around local regulations which don't allow parents to HS without being with a registered school. If there isn't a legal requirement I'd suggest saving your money, certainly for the first few years when it really is very easy to HS.

  3. I think the previous replier means kindergarten.

I have heard of "umbrella schools" here in the UK, but I am not sure about the US.

    Ask your local education authority.

  4. when you say k school, do you mean kindergarding school??? if so, let him go to normal school and let him see if he likes it after the first year... and if hes in regular school it well help him with how to interact with people
