  1. The name only matters if you have SSID broadcast on, which you shouldn't.  Unless you like uninvited guests on your network.

  2. My neighbor uses the name of the famous lake-and-its-structure president (Hoover) and it broadcasts under his first name (Herbert)

  3. I have my SSID set to " F.B.I. " lol

  4. of course not , disable broadcasting, enable mac filtering, firewall, WPA2

  5. just make up a name.

  6. If you use your name, wardrivers or anyone else could figure out where it is (from phone book or internet) if they wanted to try to tap into it.  Although, you should definitely use some sort of security, other measures like security through obscurity help too.  So pick something unique that you can remember, but would not generally be associated with you.

I have my DSL wireless/modem/router in my basement, so I get a good signal throughout my home, but not much beyond that.  So someone would have to be in my driveway to even try to tap into it.

Disabling SSID broadcast is a false sense of security, since wireless packets will contain the SSID.

  7. Neither.

  8. You could. It really doesn't matter what you call it. And broadcasting the name isn't that big a security issue, at least not if you have WPA encryption in use and have other settings in place to keep others from connecting (MAC address filtering is another easy-to-apply setting).

Turning broadcasting off will just be a pain if someone visits and they have to manually type in the network name, rather than letting the system find it.

I broadcast mine, but I'm heavily encrypted. I don't care if anyone sees it. They can't get in.
