Every election, in every place I've ever lived, there has been a shortage of poll workers. Do you get off your backsides and take part in running elections in your town or county?

  1. I once served as a deputy registrar of voters. Also served as a poll watcher in several elections. I haven't missed voting in any election since first becoming eligible to vote in 1960. I even ran for office twice. But, I won't work at the polls anymore. Since less than half of eligible voters are even registered to vote, it's too depressing a sight for me.

  2. h**l yeah, the old ladies bring in free food!

  3. no

  4. yes I have done in the past, my dad is in local politics and have done pretty much all the grungy running around jobs.

regards and what have you done other than notice there is a shortage of volunteers.

EDIT ok to the guy above me, it is not a paying gig in the UK, so maybe thats why so few people come forward

  5. It's a paying gig, my wife (and her parents) do it every election..However, while it is real easy work-you start at about 5:30 am and are not done until two hours (or later for major elections) after the polls close.  Not everyone has that kind of time.

  6. No, because the politicians we vote for aren't worthy of my time or labor.  They already get that from my taxes.

  7. No but my girlfriend does and she loves mine every night.

  8. no but I have stood with signs on the roadway to remind people to vote ; I have put up flyers on election day to remind people to vote; you can lead a voter to a freedom to exercise and cast their vote, their selection but you can't force people to stand up and acknowledge participation in the process unfortunately.  This is why we have  politicians who get away with anything and everything; if we collectively held them accountable by casting votes as a start, we may be better off.

  9. no, i hate politics

  10. Citizens must volunteer to guard the election process so that only those who deserve will be declared winners without the cheaters.

  11. No, but I'm grateful that you do.  I wouldn't have thought about this before knowing you, and unless we got a babysitter now it'd be impossible for me to do on the days you do it.  Besides, honestly, I'd be bored - it's not my cup of tea.  But again, I'm grateful that you and others like you do - it's needed.

  12. I've been a poll watcher three or four times.  Sometimes it is almost interesting.

  13. No i don't help at the polls cause i have a child with a disability that needs my constant care, but I DO vote absentee which just as or even more important.
