Question:

Do you walk your dog the same way every time, or different routes?

I took a different route today, and my dog stopped at the corner, sat and faced the way we usually go. :) I want her to stop at every corner and sit, that's why I take her different directions every once in an while. I was surprised to see her do this, but glad too!

Just wondering what others do!

  2. I normally let my dogs drag me along. Although sometimes I take control and lead the walk and they trot along side of me and my partner happily, we like to take different routes every time, but if we take the same ones then it's still a nice walk.

  3. I normally just take her to the same place. She gets mad at fights for control if we don't.

  4. I usually go the same routes.

    On a regular day,

but if its a day that i am not doing anything.

then i like to go a different way and a longer way.

    Good Luck.

    x*x

  5. Different routes. I live in an area with heaps of cul-de-sacs and parks.

So it's fun to go on different routes.

I make my dog sit at corners too. xD

  6. I don't go the exact same way every time but the destination is the same. He seems fine when all the other dogs bark(they're jealous), but once we went another route and these two siberian huskys barked like crazy and he started jerking the leash a lot :S.

  7. i dont have a dog but when i walk my gf dog with her we allways take the same way and the usually sit and stop at the corner when she yells street

  8. yes I do and it really good you do the same because if your dog every left your house being curious about something else and left it wouldn't get so lost because it will remember all the routes youve been taking her/him

  9. you Have to mix it up or the poor dog will be so bored, how boring is that the same place everyday!!

one poor dog near me gets walked once round the houses the same way about once a week, poor thing :(

we do 2 walks a day round all where we live different routes, then once a day in the open fields for a run, then different fields & parks at the weekend, dogs love to discover and smell and meet new people!

mix it up! to keep your doggy happy and mentally situlated and decrease the risk of boredem and problems!

  10. We go all over the place. I too make my girls stop and sit before crossing any road. Sometimes I even let them pick where we go.

  11. as long as u dont take it to japan where they'll eatit.

    its cool :( jk

i would take it a little differently everytime :D i would

    i dont have one

  12. Usually on weekdays we go the same path in a circle around the neighborhood, but on weekends sometimes we take a long walk in a big oval through the city where there are more people and shops and stuff, it's fun :)

  13. with my dog, i had a handful of routes that i would use.  sometimes, he would want to go the "regular" route, but usually he enjoyed the variety.  once he got used to the differences, he just went with the flow.  i think he enjoyed the different smells along the way when we would walk a different way.  interesting question!!

  14. We just let our dogs out the back door into our backyard.  We hired "Scooper Troopers" to come regularly and clean the p**p out of our yard.  We have 4 dogs, so this is nice!

  15. Dogs will adapt to where they were raised at. Your dog can't help but miss where you usually take her. Plus, shes more comfortable in your usual spot, rather than a new spot. It'll be hard to get used to for her to be taking to new places, but if you trained her right she'll obey and just get used to it. She might even forget about the old spot.

  16. i would go different routes for a variety for yourself and the dog!

  17. well i don't walk my dog. I have over a very large yard. But if i did i would walk  it the same way ..so if they get loose and get lost it would know the way home.  also people who see you out would know it is your dog if it got lost. the dog don't care where you walk then as long as they got out and not locked up or tied all the time ..

  18. There is a nearly trail that I usually take my two dogs to so that they can run free. But otherwise, I have several different routes in the neighborhood that I take them on. They don't particularly care where we go - as long as they get to run! : )

  19. Just for saftey , I always switch, you never know who is watching your every move. So I take different routes..not that anyone would bother me with my 9 month old 117lb wolf dog..

  20. Dogs seem to share a great deal with humans.  Hence, I would respect in reasonable measure, some of the dog's personality traits.  When I was in my preadolescence years, I had a Samoyed.  It quickly realized that it could manipulate me a lot.

On some walks that dog bullied me with all its charm and pull power (sled dog) to the point where I would set it free.   And it would only return when I was scared and close to tears.

It loved to be free so much!  But he was kidnapped (I think he was in good hands.).  My fault.

So!  Your dog forms deep habits.  I guess I would encourage that but, also I would let it develop a mental map of your world.  Kind of a win-win!

  21. same way pretty much. haha
